Group calls on black caucus members to follow votes in their districts

Let's take it step by step. If Super delegates are to ignore their independence or even the commitments they have already given and vote the way their constituents voted, we wouldn't need Super deligates to begin with...we'd just have the voters determine ALL the delegates. Super delegates, therefore, were not designed to be duplicative rubber stamps of their consituencies. What about all those consituencies where Republicans and Independants were allowed to vote in the Democratic primary ? Should Super delegates mirror their vote which may have made the outcome decisive? Super deligates were created by design to be an independent component of the process. Now that one candidate seems to have clear constituent support, the intimidation of Super delegates begins when the outcome of requiring the Supers to mirror vote would be known to all. That's called "stacking the deck" once the cards have been dealt. No thanks...nice try..but no thanks.

Jay Theoretically superdelegates were created to be an independent part of the process. From a practical point of view, they are not expected to go against their own constituency. That is not to say that it will never happen. If superdelegates decide the outcome in Hillary's favor, they will be seen as thwarting the will of the people and may possibly fracture the party. If they are not reelected because of it, then it serves them right.

One reason superdelegates like John Lewis are changing their tune about Hillary is that Color of Change and other groups are actively calling for people to challenge CBC members who endorsed Hillary and represent districts that overwhelmingly voted for Obama. I understand that there has already been several CBC Hillary supporters who have lost primary elections to Obama supporters or have been threatened with a serious challenge by Obama challengers. CBC Hillary supporters like Lewis can shoot down challengers attempting to run on Obama's coattails by endorsing Obama. With Color of Change getting into the game, a potential candidate would have the organizational structure and fundraising base to mount a serious campaign against Black Caucus members who don't support Obama in districts that voted overwhelmingly for Obama. Many young and talented people who could defeat Waters, Hastings and other Hillary supporters have not run against them because of the respect they have for these veteran lawmakers, who usually face little serious opposition and win re election by a 70 percent or greater margin. Would going against the will of the voters in their district inspire others to make a serious run against these longtime congress members? The defeat of Cynthia McKinney is an example of what can happen to a Black congressperson if they ignore the views of their constituents.

The bottom line is this. If they want to back Hilary and ignore the constituents fine, Then when they are up for re-election the people will speak and release them from office. It really sad in this day and time when we as African Americans have waited for this day the time has come. And now some our "Elder Statesmen" act like this???????? Give me a DAMN BREAK and WAKE UP!!!
