Jeremiah Wright's response to first Obama flap

Whohoooo! Way to tell it, Reverend (assuming it's really from him). I am a white guy who is thoroughly disgusted with the lazy/opportunistic/sensationalist way the media has distorted this entire (more recent) Wright story. I just (finally) listened to the entire famous "God D*** America" sermon that I am supposed to have my fragile patriotism insulted by, and am just appalled. Wright clearly spent the first 99% of the sermon talking about how "governments change", and though some of them have been decent most have been harmful to the African American people. He understandably found *that* damnable, and frankly I do to. Anyone with even a casual familiarity with history should. I expect FauxNews to take things out of context and play to the racism in their audience, but for the generally reputable media to do so too is simply galling. I hope they can wake up and summon some scraps of professionalism soon.

The "pastor" Wright, this hate-monger raving racist against the white people who fed him and his black people, can he still speak after having been revealed to the entire nation as being the evil man he is? Any sorry to say for his hateful racism and anti-Semitism? Any mea culpa? Like Obama who does not want to condemn this evil raving racist, Wright is the same, he does not want to apologize! That is not all! This guy is also an anti-Israel (=anti-Semite according to Martin Luther King famous quote on the matter where he clearly explained that people who are anti-Israel use Israel has a mean to express their anti-Semitism). Obama is a closet racist, a closet anti-Israel (in short a closet anti-Semite by substitution!) and a closet Muslim who converted to Christianity only out of political necessity! Will the American people support Obama to become president? The answer is NO!

Why didn't Barack Obama stand up for Jeremiah Wright when the media went after him over those decontextualized statements he made from the pulpit? Why did Obama compare Wright to an old uncle who says inappropriate things? Obama knows what Trinity United is all about. Why did he denying knowing of Wright and the church? Obama certainly behaved differently than the characterization of him given by Wright in this letter.

To Tom, Do you honestly believe the garbage you are spewing out of your mouth? Your timeline is WAY off. Obama was a christian long before he had any aspirations in politics. But wait I am wrong because every black male in his 20's aspires to become the POTUS. Your afraid of change. Your afraid of actually dealing with a candidate that is your intelectual supperior. Your afraid that this man might make our country great again, or at least set it on the right path. It is sad to see all of these hate mongering racists that cannot see past the color of skin. It is no wonder that Obama's main demographic is the young and the educated who can see past skin color. While Hillary's demographic are the Jerry Springer white trash of america, old racist whites, and sexist women. Where do you fit in Tom? It sure doesn't appear to be educated because you have not gotten for facts correct.

Tom, Trinity UCC is not a "racist" church. It has numerous white parishners and the United Churches of Christ network is overwhelimgly white. Why did Obama not defend every word of Wright? That's pretty obvious, and it's the same reason McCain wouldn't dwell on the exact words of Hagee, Robertson, Falwell, Parsley and many of the other religious supporters he seeks. Religious leaders are not politicians and they say things well outside the bounds of acceptable political discourse, which is one of the many reasons we have a separation of church and state. Speaking of which, Pope Benedict just this week reinstated the Vatican's stance that Catholics must pray for the souls of Jews. I didn't see Pat Buchanan and Joe Scarbrough jump off a cliff to denounce the Catholic church as a result of the return of this ancient form of anti-Semitism.

Senator Obama’s membership in this church is just not acceptable for a President of the United States. Now he does not have to leave the United Church of Christ faith, just choose another place of worship in that same faith. There is more then one United Church of Christ in the Chicago Area. I here this argument every time this comes up that people don’t agree with everything there priest says but you don’t stop being a catholic and change faiths. That may be true but you should choose another Catholic church if the Catholic church you do attend and its priest is saying anti American beliefs and statements, If it supports Hamas and is anti Semitic. If racism is promoted and preached. If your priest is a pedophile would you not at least change another Catholic church but not your faiths? So should have Senator Obama chosen another United Church of Christ church in the Chicago area and his refusal for years speaks volumes about his judgment. Looks like he has more in common with Bush then just admiring Chaney. Americans are saying NObama for our President!

Thanks to Wright and Obama the dirty little secret of black hate is out. Our white church helps build houses for blacks, they curse me and my country, we contribute to feed the poor, they continue to have babies with no fathers, we minister to convicts, they terrorize our streets with gangs and drugs, the list goes on.

I'm so glad that "V Racer" & "Tom" do not live next door to me....because I believe I will get away with murder/beat down(just kidding..I think) by being a Gulf War Veteran who has been taking psychotic medication for the past 17 years for PTSD/hallucinations!(typing while taken another pill). V Racer, The fact that you can say that you church is "white" is the problem right there. All white or all black churches should be the real issue. I find it funny that instead of building homes for African-americans, your pastor and congregation wouldn't try to integrate the pews. In addition, as a Christian, you found nothing wrong with attending an "all white" church. That speaks about your belief in racial intergration and social awareness. Of course, you, as well as Tom, don't recognize that nor scrutinize other members in society who are of European descent. Bravo. That's exactly what the Rev. was talking about. So why don't you and your mindless congregation ponder what is and why this "black hate" is a reality for some blacks. Personally, I hope Americans let this issue define Obama and, in return, continue to suffer poor wages, expensive healthcare, lost pensions, lost homes and another stupid, pointless war. You deserve exactly what you get!

I see that some people (Tom) are still hung up on the Rev. Wright myth created by FOX News. As a Black Pastor, who historically has been a Ronald Reagan Republican and who voted for Barak Obama in the Texas primary, I have a problem!! I admit it. I believe that God does execute retribution on nations and communities that turn their back from the tenets and the principles of his word. GEE TOM! There seem to be quite a few comments here about you and your pencil-headed, narrow minded partners. Everybody can't be wrong, so obviously, you must be. In spite of your glaring ignorance in these days and times, it's your families that I feel sorry for IF you have one. The burden of living with someone like you must be unbearable. Do you also make them feel beholding to The Master if you favor them with food or drink? I bet you do, even if you don't say it. I knew it would happen. As much as people--black and white, latin and asian, muslim and christian--talked about wanting to BE one America, the truth is that we are not and Senator Obama's brilliant speech on racism and the remnants thereof are starting to show. I was watching THE VIEW yesterday, and Elizabeth, the resident Republican, went off on this same tangent. Whoopi had been gone all last week with the flu, so they all recapped their conversations about last week's subjects and found themselves on this topic again. Elizabeth, in her youth, in her zeal and in her privilege, went on ANOTHER rampage about black racism, to which Joy Behar quickly responded that "the oppressed people can't be racist. They are simply responding to years of racism. It's not right, but it's not racism." Elizabeth screamed, almost violently, "SOMEBODY TELL ME THE RULES BECAUSE I AM CONFUSED." She hated that she couldn't call Rev. Wright as racist because that's not who or what he is. She hated that she couldn't just peg him as a hate-monger based on 3 minutes from YouTube, owning that she never listened to anything more than the clips she got sent to her from one of the listserves to which she belongs. Most importantly, she was silenced when Sherry Shepard said to her "The Rules have been written down for years. 'All Men Are Created Equal.' The rules have been laid out plainly. America has simply never followed those rules." What is scarring my soul most in all of this is to watch well-intended white people--those who say that they believe and understand and have marched and have worked with and stood beside, say that they don't understand that well-intended black people still suffer the stings and slings of racism on a daily basis. So we can work beside you. We still can't get the same positions as you on a general scope. So we can go to the same schools. It doesn't matter if the teacher presumes us less than and is condescending. So we can all go to the same concerts and rock the same gear and speak the same lingo. At the end of the day, young white kids get to treat hip-hop like a spring break; some place that they get to visit and act out. When a young black kid adorns that same gear, he has an entire history and mindset thrown at him that might not in any way reflect his life. But that color thing makes you think that ONE is a kid going through a phase, while the other is presumed a criminal. I am not surprised, but daily I am saddened. Not because the Republican Party has figured out how to distract the Democrats in such a way that all of this fighting amongst ourselves just might get McCain into office. What I am so saddened and shamed by is the fact that so many people have bitten so easily. The vile, reprehensible, racist, disgusting hate-mongering that I have been hearing from SOME WHITE PEOPLE has made me sick to me stomach. That there are people who are throwing their "GOOD DEEDS" back into people's faces to remind them of just how good they are reminds me of that HATEFUL HORRIBLE SCENE in The Color Purple. After Miss Laura, the Mayor's wife, complimented Miss Sofia's beautiful children. She then asked Sofia if she wanted to come and work for her. After Sofia says HELL NO, she is beaten. But what many viewers might have missed was what Miss Laura was saying while they were screaming and fighting and yelling and berating Miss Sofia. She said "I have been good to you people." And then, she took Miss Sofia off and forced her AFTER YEARS IN JAIL to be her maid, anyway. WOW. Thanks for your good intentions, to all of the Miss Lauras of the world. I guess we owe you servitude for your good works.

Reverends Wrights response to your handling of the interview needs to be published, aired for people to see now sick the news media is. What distortion. You should be fired but of course you won't as this is what your paper thrives on. Distortions, lies, exaggerations.

It would be very beneficial if you had made this article available for the readers to be able to e mail to other people. Reverend Wrights letter was wonderful, but you are not allowing us to share with others.

I have emailed various news anchors at CNN and MSNBC asking them to read, post and air Reverend Wrights letter to the New York Times. Is there some way you can get this to the media? Do you know what you are saying? - what you have actually said was that everybody except for the orginal inhabitors of this land do not be long hear. Because it was the Ancsestors of Trinity United Church of Christ who first landed on the shores of this continent. You do remember the Pilgrims don't you? Well you might need some history lessons but I would say you need to do some research and rethink your statement. My God where has this country gone when a person of any color has to know ahead of time what their pastor will say or do before they will go to church? What is wrong with people there is such a thing as separation of church and state. There is such a thing as live peacably with all humanity. Just because what I say might make you mad do I have to be wrong? Just because I don't think in box does that make me stupid or crazy. And what about Jews in Israel? What do you know about their politics. How do you know the same hand that feeds them won't be the same one that is bit off. You do know your Bible don't you? If two brothers children can not get along why would you think a stranger can come in and get it all worked out? Grow up and stop being a hater.
