Bill Clinton's popularity plummets

We in the Jewish community have known Bill Clinton is a joke for years now, glad to see others are now catching on!

I don't know why he was ever even popular to beging with, what has he ever done, other than chase women? Now, his only claim to fame is he's a top notch race baiter for his wife.

truly tragic!!! though imperfect...bill was a legendarily popular president he united america and left the usa with a record surplus that republikkkans erased long ago... he was even an idol of typically lewd philanderdering adulterous males... Alicia Banks, you've got to be kidding! Clinton's plummeting popularity has nothing to do with the fact that he's supporting a woman. It's because he's a shameless, racist liar supporting another shameless, racist liar who HAPPENS to be a woman. For him to minimize Obama's win in South Carolina as just a Black thing is made even more outrageous by the fact that HE won South Carolina, Al Gore won South Carolina and John Edwards has won in South Carolina. It only became a "Jesse Jackson thing" win Obama won in South Carolina against his wife. Bill Clinton is so full of crap his eyes are turning brown.

Oh come on people he is Bill is losing reputation because he minimalized Obama's victory in South Carolina, what a bunch of crap. Of course he is going to play down a victory for an opposing force this happens all the time, it happened with the DVD format war, it happened with the console war, it happens all the time wherever there are two opposing forces and one loses ground. Who the hell cares. Anyway this is allover the statement he made saying that Jessie Jackson won SC during his 1984 and 88 runs, how is that racist, to me he is making the point that just because Obama won SC doesn't mean he'll win over all, after all Jackson didn't win over all. Personally, it seems more of a racist thing when he is blamed for the statement, but we live in a country where only whites can be racist and only men can be sexist. I could make a similar argument claiming Alan is being sexist as he minimalized the fact that Alicia made a good point. If such a claim had weight I could kill of Alan's role in this discussion without any foundation of my claims validity. And because my claim had no validity and I chose to play the sexist card anyway, I should be the party labeled as sexist because I only used the claim to further my agenda. My point being is this only became a racial issue when someone decided to scream racist because Bill was trying to stop support from leaving his wifes endeavor, even though he didn't even use any racial slurs of any kind. For those of you who are buying this because you read someone else's analysis of the situation try being more analytical instead of being led by the agendas of others, especially of anyone with lots of public exposure. For people like Jojo, do some research and see for yourself what he accomplished. Finally, for the love of everything holy, who cares that he had a felatio performed on him, its not like he was the first one. Hell JFK had affairs in the white house but no one cares because he was killed in office and that is as far as anyone ever thinks about him. I just wish people would grow up and think every once in a while.

Alicia, I was actually going to support Hilary Clinton for two reasons: 1. She's incredibly intelligent; 2. It's about TIME a woman held the ultimate seat of power in a horribly misogynistic country. But I'm no longer supporting Clinton because she and her husband showed that there is no depth they aren't willing to sink to in order to gain that seat of power. And quite frankly, that reeks of Bush/Cheney/Rove which frightens me to no end. Paul, You don't have to use racial slurs to invoke racist tactics. Bill Clinton's message in South Carolina was a surreptitious call to whites to take note of how blacks were voting: he was saying, in coded language, "if the blacks are voting for the black candidate, then you need to be voting for the white candidate." He didn't have to use the n-word. He merely had to somewhat, sort of, kind of suggest it. Blacks were shocked that the president they had always thought of as the first black president was willing to engage in those sort of shady racist tactics. It certainly turned me away from them. If Clinton ultimately wins the nomination, it will be the first time in my voting career that I might be more likely to vote for the republican candidate, which breaks my heart to no end.

....a little too little too late. And if you ask me he was never a popular President -- just the lesser of 2 evils @ the time.

SonofBaldwin, I know you can use racial tactics without using derogatory language but it gets annoying that anytime someone uses any language that contains any amount of ambiguity a lot of people jump onto the interpretation that is most negative and most offensive. But to me it doesn't make sense, because any candidate should know that when you pull tactics like that you should expect to lose the vote of more than just the race your targeting. Given this situation what positive would Bill reap for his wife had the comment in question been undeniably racist? I mean I still see ambiguity in its meaning and I should imagine that it is negatively effecting Hispanic, Caucasian , and other groups of voters just as much as it is effecting the opinions of African American voters in a negative way. Since we all know that once you tell the audience to bugger themselves you have pretty much just killed any support you may have had. Thats why I think that this comment was taken the wrong way and Bill was simply trying to convey that SC is just another state and that the fight will continue, because if this was a linguistic "flipping of the bird" it would assuradely kill the support of voters that were both of the targeted racial group and other racial groups that would be disgusted for such behavior. So what would bill have to gain by making a racial comment at this point? All in all I just don't believe that, considering who said it, it was of the racist interpretation as it is being made out to be. Also, and this isn't really related to the topic at hand, but I irks me to no end how personal the races are becoming, people are starting to base their vote on things that don't really matter (whats their religion, what is their middle name, did they ever go to a party and get smashed in college, did they ever smoke weed in high school, did they wear white after labor day). Nowadays candidates are expected to be immaculate and pander slightly in favor of every group willing to vote for them. I want a candidate who is their self, I don't want them to pander to me as an individual, I want them to recognize the wishes of their supporters and if elected I want them to act in the interests of the majority of the American people. I don't care Obama's middle name is Hussein, and if rumor is true that he converted from Islam before starting his campaign it would actually annoy me, that is if he converted because of the campaign, I would have rather had him run as a Muslim. In the end, I want someone that is human, that makes mistakes that learns from mistakes, and that reassures me that "things are being handled as best they can" and not "expect to be killed sometime.....sometime soon....um somewhere in the US.....by terrorists". Speaking of a human candidate, thank god Gore overcame is robotic speech style. Baldwin, even though we don't see the situation the on the same level, I appreciate the fact that you took the time to respond with something other than a status quo, or lowbrow comment that I see on just about every other comment board. Living in Oklahoma it get frustrating seeing some of the stupid crap people post, Hell I was reading a story about a local 18 yrold repeat burglary offender and many commentors were seriously pushing for torture as a corrective means of rehabilitation. Its like listening to a bunch of children. Anyway to finally end this post I am grateful for your intelligible input and hope to see another response.

A Banks blog’s comments are worse than Clinton's. To go from the public not buying into his race insensitive comments to those who detract that behavior as being sexiest is crazy. The woman he is supporting for President, i.e. his wife is also the one he cheated on as Gov. and President. I would think Ms. A Banks that you would be more inclined to see that as sexist, perhaps that's too rational.

Paul, Thank you for debating in such a kind and intelligent fashion. I think supporters of both Clinton and Obama often forget that we aren't one another's enemies, that we share many of the same thoughts, beliefts and ideals which supercede any perceived differences. I am proud to say that I am a Barack Obama supporter, particularly after that incredibly honest and moving speech he gave earlier today. But at the same time, I don't think anyone should be ashamed to say that they are a Hilary Clinton supporter. Like Obama, Clinton's good attributes also outweigh her perceived bad ones. I simply prefer Obama's hopeful vision of reconciliation, unity and American success to Hilary's more grounded vision of America--and I prefer Obama's "high road" methods of achieving that vision to Clinton's less friendly ones.

Sister Banks I think you hit the nail on the head. It is sad people are so blinded by the belief that a black man is going to be in charge of a nuclear armed nation that they have forgotten the good things that Bill Clinton did do for the country. He did the black community a very big favor by ending welfare as way of life. That had been a republican battle cry for years. He also installed don't ask, don't tell for the military. The military is now so scrapped for recruits that every now and then they are in the village along 7th ave in uniform handing out flyers. I laugh everytime I see them out there. I would like to see a black president one day but I honestly don't think Obama has the foreign policy experience necessary at this time and would have to rely on his advisers too much for foreign policy decisions which could actually make things even worse than what they already are. I do wish him luck and if he is the nominee he does get my independent vote as long as he does not bow to any religious figure be they black or white.

Other than being a former Secretary of State, just what are the qualifications required to be President for foreign policy? Bush didn't have any, nor did Reagan as Clinton didn't either, as does his wife does not, so, why is the bar set so much higher for Obama? Anyone can take a trip abroad, and, it hardly makes you a international statesman. Ending welfare for life, give me a break, everyone needs to be working, and, contrary to what the GOP and Clinton said, most black people were working, and, that little tidbit that the majority of folks on lifetime welfare were are white is always overlooked. So, lets give them jobs at minimum wage that can never support a family, with no health insurance to over crowd hospitals and make everyone else pay more, still living in dangerous neighborhoods, same lousy schools and red-lined and priced out of decent ones? Sorry, Bill Clinton didn't do much for anyone, other than disgrace the country with a sex scandal.
