Sheila Jackson Lee booed
Staff Reporter | Posted March 31, 2008 7:20 AM
It's not easy being a black Clinton supporter in some places. Just ask Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, who was booed by her own constituents over the weekend at a Texas Democratic Convention.
Lee, a Clinton supporter from Houston, was booed by the crowd when she got up to speak at the convention.
Her district, which is predominantly black, voted overwhelmingly for Barack Obama in the Texas primary, and some in the crowd didn't agree with her support of Sen. Clinton.
"For her to stand out against the wishes of her district and be a Clinton supporter, I guess pissed off our delegation," one Obama supporter told Houston's KHOU News.
On the video, posted on the KHOU web site, you can clearly hear the sounds of Obama supporters chanting their candidate's name (O-BA-MA) and a few boos. Click on the link here to watch the raw video.

"In the aftermath of the Texas and Ohio primaries, black voters are awakening to stark realities: Democrats, as demonstrated by Hillary and Bill Clinton, are exceptionally skilled at playing the race card -- against their own. First, there is the rude awakening that the Clintons would turn their slash-and-burn tactics on African-Americans."

In light of the well documented and illustrated behavior and speech of "Team Clinton", supporting Clinton going forward is also supporting their tactics.
All these "Old Negro Guard" politicians that are supporting Hillary should be boo'ed (and voted out of office).
Supporting Hillary is cool, no problem. However at this juncture it's beyond that. It's transitioned and or evolved to being part of a movement to destroy Obama in the general election at all cost, ANYTHING to make him unelectable.
Interesting to note the 'Coon is alive and well in 2008.

She outta be stripped naked and thrown out in the street!
March 31, 2008 10:43 AM
Boo with loud speakers and megaphones all day and night with her trifling self and then vote her out of office.
March 31, 2008 10:55 AM
She has the right to vote for and support anyone she wants to. i really don't understand others booing her just becuase they don't agree with her. As adults can't we just disagree. As long she is making the right decision as a congresswoman... then why should it matter who she persoanlly votes for.

um, i had to respond to this comment below..

This is really sick & makes me so sad. really? really? thats how you feel? because you disagree with her vote you are actually making a suggestion to strip a black woman naked & throw her into the streets? what is wrong with you? really?
i dont have words for this. it is just so sad.

Mark My Words!!!!! SHE WILL NOT BE RE-ELECTED, EVEN RUNNING ON HER RECORD. SHE COMMITTED POLITICAL SUICIDE.
March 31, 2008 3:24 PM
She's been an idiot for a long time, so her support of Hillary is no surprise. She sickens me every State of the Union address when she literally elbows other congressmen and women out of the way so she can get a spot next to the aisle so she can kiss up to President Bush as he walks by. What is up with a member of the CBC so determined to get face time with Bush? Doesn't she know that 95% of her constituents hate him?

Why do I hear so much anger in these blogs? The fact is an elected congressman is free to vote for and support the candidate of their choice. They were not elected to mimic the vote of their district. They were elected to represent their district in legislative matters.
The democratic party did not create superdelegates to vote according to the will of the people, but to vote what is best for the party. It would be redundant for superdelegates to simply vote the will of the people.
We should not attack our elected congress persons simply because we disagree with who they are supporting.
Another fact, there is very little policy difference between Obama and Clinton. If you like is good, then you will be happy if the other wins. That is, if you are voting for them based on their platform, which is the most important reason to vote for a candidate.
The attacks are only making the republicans happy. We can disagree and still be agreeable.
March 31, 2008 5:09 PM
Well, keith, the Democratic party needs to rid itself of those so called super delegates and go with what the people actually want, or are the voters not necessary and can be igonored the whims of the super delegates, who are the only ones who seem to matter. This election will done thing, fragment the party and, it will take years for it to heal, but when McCain wins, they have plenty of time to commiserate over all the nonsense that has been spewed by the so called party leaders, which is doing one thing, leading to a loss.
March 31, 2008 7:07 PM
People let's not forget that President Bush was out first APPOINTED president and I now John McCain is our second.
But don't feel too bad Barack. As we did with Gore, we all voted for you too. Oh wait, the election hasn't been held yet has it...........forgive me ya'll. My crystal ball is in fast forward mode. It seemed to have skipped right over the importance of what ol' sister Jackson here is supporting. I'm sorry again ya'll.

Bill Clinton has been telling black audiences that he always wanted to vote for a black candidate but now God has put him in a tricky situation where he can't do that. That's a bunch of bull! Bill can easily vote for a black man this year. Here's how: Ask Hillary to step aside and then both of them campaign and vote for Barack in the General Election. Easy as ABC (Anyone But Clinton!)
April 1, 2008 7:47 AM
Keith,
Your argument is flawed. If the superdelegates were chosen to vote for what is best for the party, who are you to 1)say that voting according to the people is not in the best interest of the party and 2)decide what is redundant?
What you have offered is the jimmy-rigged idea that somehow voting against the people is the only way for a superdelegate to cast their ballot.
Therefore, your Clintonian argument makes very little sense, if any at all.

This is such a clear example of how low class many of the Obama supporters clearly are! The Clintons have an amazing Civil Rights and diversity supporting record. Yet black people act as though Hillary Clinton is the "boogey man," which is quite insane! What it really shows me is that black people are voting primarily based upon race, which is quite regressive, and that's the reason why Hillary Clinton's small but loyal African-American supporters are being treated like they're Uncle Toms, in spite of all evidence to the contrary. Of course the irony is that if white folks were really inclined to vote based upon race, Obama wouldn't have stood a chance.

Jerome, you are so right. I am so disappointed the attitude Obama supporters are displaying against the Clintons and any African American who does not support Obama.
April 1, 2008 2:59 PM
Jerome, I recently saw an article that said that George Bush was booed at a local baseball game in Washington, DC. Karl Rove was protested at a local university there as well.
I don't think that is being low class as it is exercising free speech. Also, do you mean the "Clinton's" or Bill Clinton? Bill has been the only one of the two who has had the ability to institute policy.
Black people don't owe the "Clinton's" a damn thing for doing what any forwad-thinking person should do. Indentured servitude ended eons ago.
Instead of making sweeping generalizations against an entire race, it may prove beneficial to engage some of those low class Obama supporters in a discussion about why they choose him over her. That way you will be informed as opposed to participating in the same ignorance you accuse others of having by not supporting Hillary.
Besides, of the 535 members of H.O.R. and 100 US Senators, less than 8% are black. When that number increases dramatically, then you should have a discussion about black voting patterns.
April 2, 2008 3:07 AM
Well fellow Clinton supporters (Keith and Jerome) I've read what you two have written and it makes sense…sorts of anyway. But not all of us Obama supporters are low class and mainly we chose him because of CHANGE. It's time to try something new and you'll never know until the opportunity is given.
And no I don’t think Hillary is the “boogeyman” But her campaign as well as Bill has pulled little dirty tricks with negative statements referencing to Blacks. But what I don’t understand is why we accept statements as such.
Let’s name a few
1. Bill was in Charleston WV and the mayor of the city (Who is a minister as well) came to the podium and said. "I am a minister and I'm not Jeremiah Wright" and I'm saying GOD BLESS AMERICA" which indeed was a potshot at Wright/Obama and Bill laughed it off and clapped with everyone else and never distance himself from it and went on and politicked for HRC like it was nothing.
2. Then you have Gov Ed Rendell of Pennsylvania who is not held responsible, or accountable enough for this statement. “A Black Man is not electable because Whites won't vote for him"
3. And lets not forget Adelfa Callejo of Texas who said this “Obama won't win in Texas because Obama simply has the problem that he happens to be black." And at first Clinton would not say that she denounce the comments actually she never denounced them she sent a spokesman to say she disagreed with Ms Callejo's comments...PHONY
4. And now we Emanuel Cleaver, a former mayor of Kansas City, is still a Clinton fan, an he indicated that Obama may be graded on a curve by white Americans. The Missouri Congressman called Obama "articulate," but said that "in the black tradition, he would probably be mediocre."
All of these people are connected to The Clinton campaign. I was always taught that birds of feather flock together. That being said. I don’t believe for one minute that they’re racist, or prejudice. But what I do think is this they take us for granted very much as they feel they can say things of sorts about us and to us then want to KUM-BI-YAH us and we just be submissive and accept it......HELL NO, NO MORE!
She or Bill or their campaign people have not made any funny statements about Hispanics. Why is that? Because they take them seriously!
IF WE DON’T TAKE A STAND FOR SOMETHING, WE WILL FALL FOR EVERYTHING!
And there are many Clinton Supporters say VILE, and VISCIOUS things against us Obama supporters one statement in particular is that we all have dranked the KOOL AID and become hypnotized by this Man. What is so nice about that??????
And to answer this comment: What it really shows me is that black people are voting primarily based upon race, which is quite regressive.
Is it? Then HEAR YE, HEAR YE
This is a moment that we have always waited for and now the opportunity has come why not take advantage? If this was MLK you would have not felt that way…TRUST!
We have given Bill and Hillary our all and all and we appreciate them dearly. But if you feel that we who are voting Obama are “regressive” then so be it. White candidates have always voted for WHITE candidates because they chose to. So why do you feel that is an issue with us? I don’t need to be led to the promise land by a white person if there is a qualified Black who actually is a (Bi-racial) person who also can do it. We’re not low class. We are just taking initiative to show America and the world
YES WE CAN!
I LOVE ALL OF YOU REGARDLESS WHO YOU SUPPORT WE NEED TO LEARN AS BLACKS TO UNIFY INSPITE AND REGARDLESS OF!
April 2, 2008 3:36 AM
I love how many of you are optimistic that a black man is going to be placed in charge of the most powerful nation in the world (militarily and economically.
However, as we all saw in Florida in 2000, the black vote can be declared irrelevant in a heartbeat. If it were not for the movie Fareinheit 911 I would never have know that the protest had even been brought to the senate floor. Clinton and every one of those other god fearing white christian senators sat there and did nothing while those poor black lawmakers begged them not to throw out 16000 votes of blacks who had voted.
I don't have anything against Clinton personally but if Obama is not on that ticket one way or the other (#1 or #2 spot) this will be my second presidential election that I am not voting in.
April 2, 2008 5:03 AM
Hey Brucito, How have you been?
We don't have any other choice but to be optimistic. But this will be one time that Hillary and Bill Clinton will learn and swift and sharp lesson not to take us Blacks for granted ever again!
April 2, 2008 9:22 AM
Why would Obama have to be #2 on a ticket at this point? So far HRC should not be given a chance, she has bashed this man's reputation worse than I thought she would, and, while I have never held her in any respect to begin with, to have Bill join in is too much. If, she is on the ticket sorry, I will not vote for him, she and her husband and her camp and their putrid, borderline racist insults to the black community have been too much. But, then again, since its only about her and not the party or the country, she would never consent to be second on the ticket, especially to a black man, since she has already deemed him not worthy of smart enough to do the job.
April 2, 2008 3:00 PM
Ruth Ann I see the united states as a whole the same way I see pennsylvania. Liberal on the east (philadelphia) and west(pittsburgh) but every bit of Alabama in the middle.
I hope I am wrong and he does get the nomination. However after we all saw what happened in Dec. of 2000 absolutely nothing could shock me at all. NOTHING.
By now we all know Hillary is through but the fact that she is still in it tells you what? They are not ready to face it deep down. Oh sure keep Obama in the lime-light for as long as he brings rebirth and good ratings to both the party and the networks. But at the convention they all know the aftermath is coming.
If Obama is on that ticket regardless of #1 or #2 I then see a McCain-Powell ticket. McCain has never said nor given any strong hints at all about who his running mate will be but I could see in the debates he outright despises Romney and Huckabee equally for their religious B/S that both hide behind.
I vote democratic in elections I would have to go republican on a McCain-Powell ticket if Obama is not at least nbr two.
