81% think America is on the wrong track
Staff Reporter | Posted April 4, 2008 10:09 AM
A new poll shows Americans are more pessimistic about the state of the country than at any time since the question has been asked by the pollster. A New York Times/CBS News poll out today shows 81 percent of respondents feel the country is on the wrong track.
The Times poll asked if Americans felt "things have pretty seriously gotten off on the wrong track." Eight out of 10 respondents agreed with that statement, up from 69 percent a year ago.
"A majority of nearly every demographic and political group -- Democrats and Republicans, men and women, residents of cities and rural areas, college graduates and those who finished only high school -- say the United States is headed in the wrong direction," said the Times story. In fact, a full 78 percent said the country was "worse off than five years ago." Only 4 percent of respondents said the country was "better off."
The war is still an important issue for Americans, but the economy seems to be driving much of the discontent as well. Although the government has yet to acknowledge the economy is in recession, two-thirds of those polled believed the country is already in recession.

Black folks have felt this way annually for a very long time, this poll states nothing new for Black folks, the only thing that's new now is that White people being affected, when that happens, it makes news!
Seriously, a situation does not rise to the level of national news and national discontent until it affects White people. Kind of like how a Black woman can go missing forever, however god forbit 1 lone white women is in peril, my god, Cable News then goes "wall to wall" on 24 hour alerts (aruba girl/runaway bride/lacy peterson, astronut girl, etc. on and on [fill in the blank]).
Black people could read these results and simply say, "No Shit Sherlock".

Tim, You on point brother, Whites in this country have finally had their eyes FORCED open to see the Republican machine is for the rich, the very rich, and not necessarilly they "white asses" unless they are one of the very rich. Blacks had no problem seeing through the bullshit of George W Bush. Why couldnt they? "Well he's someone I could imagine having a beer with" And then right after that charge yo ass $3.00 plus for a gallon of gas, oversee a housing market that has your furniture on your front yard, send your sons and daughters to Iraq to fight a war we still dont see any real reason for, watch the Katrina survivors "tax paying American citizens" drown in thier own backyards, and on and on. Just cause he's "A good beer buddy"? What were yahl thinking. And I can say yahl. He didnt even get 10% of the black vote. This is Your mess.

In 2000 and maybe even 2004 many voted for G.W. Bush because of his stance on Gays and Lesbians and morality. Now that their prejudice is beginning to eat away at their savings, loss in jobs/income, and war fatigue they are having to face the music of electing an incompetent leader. Someone they elected on false promises and poor administrative agendas. Ignorance and bigotry comes with an expensive price tag-- unfortunately we are all having to pay the price along with them.
I PRAY americans learn in this next election that only by electing fair-minded leaders whose interests represent the majority of this country does this country benefit. By following this logic the repercussions bear positive fruit for this country both here and abroad.

Good point James. Also don't forget Bush was appointed in 2000. Not elected.

Bush got in with an anti-gay campaign and fear and hatred of Islam, and, it seems that the country will be duped yet again with lies, this time by McCain, fear of the black man and Islam. This country is too dumb not to see that the GOP is for the rich, and McCain with a wife worth over $30 million will only be looking out for the rich still and, that the crumbs left by them are to be fought for by the rest of us.

It's not a race issue. It's an education issue. Look at the voting maps from the last two elections. Anywhere where you have populated areas, you have people voting against Bush. It's the rest of this country that got us in this mess. I feel sorry for the next president who has to clean it up.

Rick, Im sorry brother but your wrong. Whites cant have it both ways on this issue. On one hand, over and over again the news shows keep announcing Obama cannot win without the white swing voters. Now your saying these same "white swing voters" are not the same voters who put G Bush over the top. Neither election shouldve been close. But these "I think I could have a beer with him" white swing voters is who he targeted with all wedge issues of anti-gay, anti-abortion, anti-gun control, anti-flag burnning. All issues that magically dissappeared off the scene after the election. Issues that cant stop one soilder from dying in Iraq, cant bring the price of gas down one penny. Cant make any difference on all of our day to day lives. But whites have to take ALL the responsibility for this one. Blacks were not fooled.
April 4, 2008 1:45 PM
Rick,
Are you suggesting that people in less populated areas are less educated than those living in populated areas?
April 4, 2008 2:11 PM
Well, I don't know if people out in the country are less educated, but, as they have said, all they have to do in certain parts of the country like the South is be known as a republican, and, no matter what they stand for they will sweep the white vote, so, its all about race in that regard, the DNC has long ago written off the South as they know that no matter how bad things are, they won't get that vote. This country has one of the most poorly informed population on earth, and, never do they demand that real issues be fixed by the elected officials, they fall for hype, lies and slick TV ads, and, nothing more.

If the price of oil is $105 a barrel and there is no shooting war per se going on in the middle east(an insurgency is different than an all out war)the price is surely going to hit $175 or more within the first 5 minutes if Iran gets hit from either Israel or the U.S. And when Iran hits back within an hour it will then to go no less that $250. Easily.
Sound scary enough? Sounds like a Tom Clancy novel doesn't it? Does anyone doubt martial law here in the U.S. is really such a far fetch thing anymore?
The truckers, who haul EVERYTHING that you need to survive from the factory(even the underwear you have on was made somewhere and had to get to the store where you bought it) will be up the creek in minutes. Just last week they had a one day strike about the price of fuel and who listened? People the absolute worse is yet to come.
We are being governed by men who know they have absolute unchecked power over the ENTIRE world. Within the next few years (sooner I do believe) we are going to be under a dictator or junta. If Bush had gotten his way and people had been allowed to get their social security money out and put it in the stock market we would probably be there now. The average american who can not balance a check book but now being allowed to handle their old age money with their own stock picks? Now ther's one for you.
The nations financial markets cannot withstand another wall street bank coming forward with the truth that they too are bankrupt. If you think things are bad now imagen that scenario. Too many reports are coming in to ignore the RUMOR that Lehman Bros IS in VERY SHAKY TERRORITY. And keep in mind the price of present day oil. Things are so bad I can hardly see how they are going to get better. And the final bill for the war has still not been tallied.
We are in for a very big change in the way we live and it is going to happen very soon. I do hope it changes for the better but nothing shocks me after the APPOINTMENT OF BUSH TO THE PRESIDENCY OF 2000. ALso don't forget with the help of the black representative on the supreme court, Ol'Uncle Thomas. WHAT THE POWERS THAT BE WANT, THE POWERS THAT BE GET. Righteousness be damned.
I hate Ralph Nader. That man helped do so much harm to this country while very few people out there even remember he was even in that election of 2000.
White men are to blame for what is going on nowadays. I just don't think the overall blame should be placed at the feet of the everyday poorly educated white man. He is no better off than what he has been taught to despise. Us(black folks).

Damn! Reading over these comments provided by readers, quite clear this the spot for racist commentary.
Black America sure as heck is not about to make progress in this world while so many blacks express such pure hatred for white folks.
You readers commenting accuse whites of racism! Take a good look at yourselves; you are more racist than almost all in today's world. No wonder so many whites are fearful of you with all this hatred you so openingly express.
What I read is impotent excuse making for your failings.
