Smiley says he hasn't "quit" Tom Joyner Show...yet

Don't let the door hit you on your way out Tavis! I first watched the SOTBU 2 years ago and eagerly read The Covenant book. And I waited to see real change transpire or more people involved. I'm still waiting. When you have an annual symposium sponsored by multi-national companies, companies that have been allowed to open up shop in foreign countries, companies who have shipped the bulk of their jobs to said countries, get tax breaks, enjoy their biggest profits ever and lack gov't oversight I wonder who you are really answering to and what assistance you are really offering. When you try to position yourself as a political or social leader of a group of people and jockey for positions of limited power and financial rewards it is difficult to not see a conflict of interest when you claim to be speaking on behalf of people you are in fact selling out for your own personal reward. When you make rather obvious and hypocritical comments and complain about being snubbed because you didn't manipulate someone into doing your bidding you throw all credibility out the window. And finally, if you are a tv/radio host you should probably learn to accept criticism. That's God's way of keeping you humble.

Wake up people!!!!! While we're fussing about this man having an opinion and deciding what career path he wants to take, AMERICA is still losing/suffering! Face fact, there have been worse individuals claiming to be "THE VOICE" speaking on behalf of the African American people. Quite frankly, I think Tavis Smiley has done a great job! Nevertheless, we find "shortcomings" in him... he's human people, flaws and all! Oops did I say that????? Yes, I did! Atleast he's on the "frontline" doing something! Even if you do not agree with him all the time or not at all, the man is doing something positive for African American people. As of yet we have not heard from Tavis on why he decided to leave Tom Joyner's radio show, only speculation. But, hey "people" love drama not facts. Furthermore whatever reason he chose to leave one should be able to respect his decision and not BASH the man for making a decision that is best for him. Geesh! Figuratively speaking, there are "bigger fish to fry". We are living in a country that is steadily losing!!!!!! Lets FOCUS people on issues that have substance such as education, the economy, taxes, health care, the war, injured soldiers racism, homelessness, AIDS, child abuse, pedophiles, global warming, unemployment, over populated prisons, debt, rehabilitating ex-offenders, parenting, etc. Let's stop playing the game and faulting THIS MAN for what our government has allowed to happen! WORDS WITHOUT ACTION IS DEAD...JUST EMPTY/MEANINGLESS WORDS. Tavis thank you for assisting black america on RE-opening there eyes, EARS, and putting passion back into our culture.

Tavis use to have a lot to say and I enjoyed listening to him most of the time; however, within the last year he has become redundant and mean spirited. You don't have to be defensive when you are remaining neutral and stating facts. Tavis chose to take sides and as a result, the listeners didn't follow him. So Tavis, continue making money and make that your primary goal. We are a little bit too sophisticated now to not know where you are coming from. Continue looking out for yourself which you have done so well.

Rowland Martin would be a great replacement. I hope I spelled his first correctly.

I truly hope Tavis take the time to learn and speak proper English and moves up from this "Negro Coon" language and diction.

I am more than happy that Tavis Ignorant Smiley is leaving the Tom Joyner show. His comments are crass. Tavis should just climb under a rock. It is unfortunate because he started believing his own press. Who told him that he had influence? My song for Tavis - hit the road jack and don't ya come back no more, no more, no more.
