Staff Reporter | Posted April 8, 2008 7:15 AM
The University of Kansas basketball team defeated Memphis, 75-68, Monday night to win the national championship.
Trailing 60-51 with just over 2 minutes left in regulation, the Jayhawks mounted what the school itself called a "comeback that will go down as one of the most memorable in KU history."
Kansas defeated the Memphis Tigers in overtime to win the 2008 NCAA Division I National Championship, the fifth national title in the school's history.
Kansas' Mario Chalmers scored the all-important game-tying three-pointer with 2.1 seconds left in regulation that denied Memphis a victory and sent the game to overtime.
Memphis freshman phenom Derrick Rose scored 15 of his 18 points in the second half, but couldn't score a point in overtime as Kansas went on to win the game.
