Senator Barack Obama has responded to a GOP attack video directed at his wife. Appearing on "Good Morning America" today, Obama called the attack "low class" and said "if they think that they're going to try to make Michelle an issue in this campaign, they should be careful because that I find unacceptable, the notion that you should be attacking my wife or my family."
He was responding to an attack video released by the Tennessee Republican Party on Thursday. The 4-minute video unveiled on YouTube, features a clip of Michelle Obama speaking at a rally earlier this year where she talks about being proud of her country.
"And let me tell you something, for the first time in my adult lifetime, I am proud of my country," Michelle Obama says in the clip, which is repeated several times throughout the video.
In response to Obama's statement, the Tennessee Republican Party video features local residents of Nashville, Tennessee who describe when they felt proud of their country. The video features several white observers, one Hispanic, and no blacks.
One person, identified as Tate, says he is proud of his country whenever he looks at the flag. Another person, identified as Bob, is shooting pool in front of a gun rack as he explains he's proud of the country because of the first amendment, which gives him the right to free speech, and the second amendment, which gives him the right to bear arms. A police officer, identified as Juan B., says he is proud of his country "each and every day for the endless opportunities and resources that it has to offer."
A policy analyst, identified as Michelle, says she is proud of her country everyday because of the opportunities available for women. And a realtor named Bob says he's been proud to be an American since he was a kid because his grandfather came from Germany and took advantage of opportunities here to support a family and send his kids to college.
Next, a business owner named Katherine says she's proud of America because "people can come to this country, no matter what their race is, what their religion or their culture."
