About that fist bump
Staff Reporter | Posted June 5, 2008 2:08 AMIt was probably the first time a potential first couple gave each other dap on live television. It happened Tuesday night before Senator Barack Obama gave his victory speech in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Obama and his wife Michelle gave each other a fist bump, followed by a thumbs up from Michelle, and a pat on the backside by Barack.
Maybe it's their love. Earlier this week, Daily Voice contributor Audrey Chapman wrote a piece about the secrets to Barack and Michelle's relationship. "When Obama introduces his wife on stage, he often refers to her as 'my rock,' because he admits that she keeps him focused and grounded," Chapman writes.
On the other hand, "Michelle refers to that effort as simply -- 'Keeping Him Real.' She does this by making sure Barack travels home to attend family events, ballet recitals and parent-teacher meetings with her," according to Chapman. "Michelle even went the extra mile and purchased two MacBook laptops for Barack so he and the children can have video chats over the Internet," Chapman reports.
What does all this mean? "Apparently the Obamas have learned that a strong team is greater than its individual parts," says Chapman.
Now that the public has seen the fist bump, the Internet is abuzz with talk about the fist bump, its origin and the significance of the gesture by a presidential candidate and his wife. Yeah, we know it's not a serious issue, but CNN's Jeanne Moos put together a humorous little report about the fist bump, which we recommend you watch. She even takes you back to the famous Bud Light commercial in which the fist bump is replaced by the face slap.
But before you watch the CNN video, check out the Obama's fist bump from the YouTube video below.
And here's the Bud Light commercial.

This is highly unacceptable behavior per the views and the mores of many cultures of our world. This patting of a butt offends millions of our world. This display of affection presents a poor image of America to other cultures. This type of display diminishes our ability to earn the respect of others of our world.
What is next? Will Barack grab his own "junk" then give it a shake to display how manly is he?
My expectation is our president, our diplomats, those who represent our country will display the utmost in dignified behavior in deference for the values of all of our world. An example is when our female representatives visit Islamic nations, they wear clothing appropriate for and accepted by the populace of Islamic nations; they dress to impress.
Playing ass pat on a worldwide stage does not enhance our world image. Most of our world already hate America. Adding more reason to hate us is plain stupid.
Barack Obama lacks class, lacks style and is not a dignified gentleman. He is not presidential material.

Not long back, many photographs emerge of President Bush holding hands with Saudi Prince Abdullah. They stroll along holding hands inspiring much satire and mockery, even suggestion the two are homosexual lovers.
Those two men, national leaders, walking and holding hands led to much comedy, and led to much controversy. Many of our culture were offended by this act of holding hands, this act of two men holding hands.
George Bush displayed deference for Saudi customs by holding hands with Prince Abdullah. Bush displays he is aware of this need to respect cultural mores of others.
Barack and Michelle do not display this awareness.
In Saudi Arabia, as with a number other Islamic countries, men and women are not allowed to hold hands in public. Some countries are so extreme about this, a pat on a woman's butt will lead to arrest and imprisonment, possibly even execution.
Go over to the Riviera of the Mideast, go over to Dubai, slip on a bikini and suntan. A girl will be immediately arrested then tossed in jail.
India issued an arrest warrant for Richard Gere because of his kissing a girl on stage. Gere was charged with obscenity. These cultural mores we Americans consider odd are not limited to the Islamic culture.
I am curious. How will homophobic Black America react to Obama walking hand-in-hand with another man?

Your comments do not make a cow lick of sense.
Film shows Barack clearly swatting Michelle's butt. The pair do a fist pound and one-half second to one second later, as Michelle turns her back to Barack to walk away, Barack is clearly seen swatting her butt.
Are you suggesting this film is doctored, altered, faked?
Makes no sense to me so many are denying this butt swat while this event is clearly shown on film.
