This physical act further exemplifies Barack lacks maturity, lacks class, lacks dignity and lacks diplomatic know-how. This act adds weight to this argument Barack is not presidential material; he has very effectively insulted at least half of our world's peoples and has made a buffoonish fool of himself to many of our world. i rarely address other peoples comments, since i believe comment space should be reserved for comments on the article. its so interesting to me how some people (Purl Gurl) read hidden messages into everything that they observe or use tortured logic to support their own conclusions. i cant for a moment understand how someone could conclude that a presidential candidate lacks class, dignity, and diplomatic know how because he patted his wife in a loving way on her behind. first of all it displays a lack of understanding of marriage and love- particularly strong black marriage and love which is still rarely displayed in magazines, on televison, much less on the world stage. secondly- sen. obama and his wife were on U.S. soil and we have our own culture which should also be respected, i know if they were in the Middle East or India where cultural mores are different they would act accordingly. did you express this same outrage when Pres. Bush rubbed the shoulders of Chancellor Angela Merkel against protocol at a foreign summit? I dare say someone has not read the headlines from around the world about the nomination of BHO- the world shares in our joy and has high hopes for the first person of color nominated on a major party ticket. and not nary a one has expressed outrage over displays of affection between this loving couple. having said that i love the article and the media's supportive attention to the affection, support and love these two obviously have for each other...they are a true team and some of us could probably learn a thing or two from them. it is a breath of fresh air!

I believe some of you owe me an apology for your rush to judgement in lieu of a factual basis. This type of deceitful behavior by participants is simply not to be tolerated. well i m from south africa which is in africa and to be honest, the affection shown by obama and his lovely wife was a welcoming gesture and as an african i was NOT offended in any way.yes we all are watching america at this stage but believe me when i say finally a good thing comes from america and we sight a relief. in fact we are exited,and enthuastic about you guys and the direction your country is taking.

i saw video tonite of the fist bump on msnbc, from another camera angle and was actually quite disappointed because BHO doesnt pat his wife on the behind. his hand actually touches her back just below the belt on her lovely dress. i was disappointed because earlier i had defended and celebrated the booty pat, but it is quite difficult to celebrate something that didnt actually happen. i was wondering why no other news outlets had even mentioned a booty pat all day...just the fist bumping...well because it didnt occur which is clear in video captured from other vantage points in the arena. it goes to show how quickly we can all spread inaccurate and/or misinterpreted information through the internet. so i demand responsibility on all of our parts rather than apologies...although i do believe the obama's are due an apology in this case since their character was called into question based upon inaccurate information. though i doubt it would be offered as quickly as it was demanded. finally i do need to say though had the booty pat actually happened i would still be celebrating and defending it!

Michelle and Barack Obama giving each other a fist bump on stage is one of the coolest things I've ever seen.. You'd never see GW giving Laura a fist bump or Bill Clinton giving Hillary a high-five on stage.. It just shows that Michelle and Barack are real people who genuinely care about each other and those are the kind of people I would love to see in the White House.

I worked with a mexican-american who went to parochial school. He said that in the part of Arizona where the school is the first thing the nuns do to the children is get the mexican out of them. I was first introduced to the fist bump by some fellow (black) military officers about a year ago. Granted, it wasn't my thing and I teased them about being "ghetto." But, I eventually came around. Apparently, the fist bump is what people do these days. While my hubby and I still give each other the "high five," I have been the recipient of many booty pats. Sorry Purl Gurl, but real (black) men actually touch their wives and marvel in that glorious "junk in the trunk" we have back there.

I am amused by these arguments in defense of a would be president patting his wife's butt before a worldwide audience.

My expectation is our president, our diplomats, those who represent our country will display the utmost in dignified behavior in deference for the values of all of our world. An example is when our female representatives visit Islamic nations, they wear clothing appropriate for and accepted by the populace of Islamic nations; they dress to impress.

Playing ass pat on a worldwide stage does not enhance our world image. Most of our world already hate America. Adding more reason to hate us is plain stupid.

A challenge for readers who defend Barack's looseness with his hands.

Not long back, many photographs emerge of President Bush holding hands with Saudi Prince Abdullah. They stroll along holding hands inspiring much satire and mockery, even suggestion the two are homosexual lovers.

Those two men, national leaders, walking and holding hands led to much comedy, and led to much controversy. Many of our culture were offended by this act of holding hands, this act of two men holding hands.

George Bush displayed deference for Saudi customs by holding hands with Prince Abdullah. Bush displays he is aware of this need to respect cultural mores of others.

Barack and Michelle do not display this awareness.

In Saudi Arabia, as with a number other Islamic countries, men and women are not allowed to hold hands in public. Some countries are so extreme about this, a pat on a woman's butt will lead to arrest and imprisonment, possibly even execution.

Go over to the Riviera of the Mideast, go over to Dubai, slip on a bikini and suntan. A girl will be immediately arrested then tossed in jail.

India issued an arrest warrant for Richard Gere because of his kissing a girl on stage. Gere was charged with obscenity. These cultural mores we Americans consider odd are not limited to the Islamic culture.

I am curious. How will homophobic Black America react to Obama walking hand-in-hand with another man?

Second, he showed real affection for his wife & it's about time someone was real about it and not the proverbial air kiss that's so phony. You obviously are either not married or are not in a good one. Your spouse is your best friend and the one you share the most intimate (and not just sexual) parts of your life with. EVERYone else is an outsider. The Bible states that the two shall become one, leaving father and mother, and cleave to one another. Truthfully, no one else is closer to a spouse than the other spouse (not even the kids in God's sight). Marriage is sacred and it's about time real people, showed real emotion and stopped being afraid of what others will think. I am totally confident that Sen. Obama and Mrs. Obama are fully aware of other countries customs or will be if they are out of the country, BUT they were not, they were at home and if you can't be safe at home and be who you really are, then where can you be?!?!? Damned if you do, damned if you don't. The Obama's felt comfortable enough to be real people in front of the Americans who chose them (if you didn't then turn it off because you were only watching to hate). They are not perfect (and neither are you) and personally, I like true, confessed, imperfection in my candidate. It proves he's HUMAN and not some robot on a straight path to drive our country in the ground without the ability (or refusal) to change direction if necessary (George Bush). They are a fairly young couple (in terms of politics), have young children, and have a real marriage and love each other. I'm tired of looking at stiff people who are always trying to be politically correct. We've had enough fakes, be real for a change. It's refreshing to see. The writer who said that Black men actually do show affection for their wives is right. I don't see it as being ghetto at all. It's no different from what the high five used to be. Our country has a tendency to blast people who come off as robots, then blast them again for showing they're human. Film shows Barack clearly swatting Michelle's butt. The pair do a fist pound and one-half second to one second later, as Michelle turns her back to Barack to walk away, Barack is clearly seen swatting her butt.

Are you suggesting this film is doctored, altered, faked?

Makes no sense to me so many are denying this butt swat while this event is clearly shown on film.
