A day before their scheduled rally today in Unity, New Hampshire, the Democrats' two top candidates in the presidential race met in Washington last night for a unity meeting and fundraiser.
During the meeting at Washington's Mayflower Hotel, Senator Barack Obama reportedly announced that he had personally written a check for $2,300, the maximum allowable contribution under federal law, to help retire Senator Hillary Clinton's $20 million campaign debt, and he urged his top contributors to do the same.
During the meeting, Clinton acknowledged Representatives Sheila Jackson-Lee and Stephanie Tubbs Jones, two of her "most prominent and devoted African American supporters," according to a pool report from the meeting.
"We have a lot of work to do, going forward, not only the election, but once the election is over, to making sure we realize all the benefits that this election can and should bring to our country," Clinton told the crowd of 200 or so of her supporters. "So let me introduce my friend Sen. Barack Obama to my friends, all of these wonderful people who have met so much to me in my life."
The next stop on the unity tour is the town of Unity, New Hampshire on Friday, the place where Obama and Clinton each received 107 votes in the January primary.
