Is Obama getting ahead of himself?
Staff Reporter | Posted June 24, 2008 1:21 AM
The Obama campaign's recent use of a presidential-like seal has raised some eyebrows among critics who think the candidate may be getting ahead of himself before he's been elected.
The seal, which appeared at Obama's podium during a campaign event on Friday, depicts an eagle holding arrows and an olive branch under the Latin phrase "Vero Possumus," which roughly translates to "Yes, We Can" in English. It also includes the phrase "Obama for America" along the upper outside ring and the Obama campaign's web site along the lower outside ring.
An Obama spokeswoman initially described it as "a mix of presidential politics and a call for hope and change," but a spokesman for Senator John McCain derided the seal. "I think we can all agree that we need presidential candidates that are serious enough not to play make-believe on the campaign trail," spokesman Tucker Bounds was quoted as saying in the New York Daily News.
Bounds called the seal "laughable, ridiculous, preposterous and revealing all at the same time."
The Obama campaign later announced that the seal would not be used again, explaining that "it was a one-time seal for a one-time use."

As time passes, I witness more signals Obama is a true megalomaniac.

Most certainly. This presidential seal is much like a surprise gift found in a box of Cracker Jacks; cheap and tacky.
I am always baffled by politicians who simply do not pay attention to symbolism and events. American flag lapel pin, Michelle having a problem with American pride, kicking out a couple of Muslim women and now a childish presidential seal.
Obama could have proved himself to be classy had he walked over, ripped down this seal then slung it across the meeting hall like a frisbee.
When playing in the court of public opinion every word, every action, every symbol, every little "thing" must be weighed carefully before presenting whatever to public view. I learned this from decades as a public school teacher. I learned our public is very quick to critique anything and everything and, most often, those things which you never expect to cause critique.
Reminds me of an incident. Students have me pegged as an easy mark with my habit of providing money for lunch when asked. I am not comfortable with kids going hungry. Two girls ask for fifty cents each to buy lunch. No problem. I pull out a dollar bill and a pair of scissors then cut this dollar bill in half. Each of the two is given one-half of my dollar bill, "There, now you each have fifty cents." I figure this would teach the two how to cooperate with each other; neither can spend the dollar without cooperation; both halves are needed. Few days later I am called on the carpet; a parent filed a complaint with the United States Secret Service for my "defacement" of federal currency. Nothing came of this being a silly event, but this does exemplify there are those who will take the most innocent of events and render this a major crime.
Obama lacks experience as both a public speaker and as a public figure. Obama is not paying attention which is a signal of a person who is not a "forward thinker" a quality most needed by a president; anticipation of actions, events and consequences.
