The Daily Voice To Launch On Monday
Staff Reporter | Posted July 16, 2008 7:48 PMNew Web Site Aims To Be News and Opinion Leader for African Americans
New York - After five months of testing, TheDailyVoice.com will launch Monday, July 21, 2008. The Web site will serve as an aggregator of news and opinion targeting the African American community.
The Daily Voice is the brainchild of former Clinton White House aide Keith Boykin, the editor-in-chief, and 23-year-old entrepreneur Malcolm Harris, who serves as the publisher.
In addition to Boykin, contributors to the site have included former Essence magazine editor Diane Weathers, poet Maya Angelou, Harvard Law professor Charles Ogletree, former NBA player John Amaechi, nine-time Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis, Harvard University chaplain Peter Gomes, actor Isaiah Washington, political analyst Keli Goff, National Education Association President Reg Weaver, and best-selling authors Omar Tyree and Crystal McCrary Anthony.
"Our aim is to create the leading online destination for African American news and opinion," said Harris, "and we plan to accomplish that by engaging the already established community of black news and opinion sites as our primary content providers." The site will include original op-ed pieces, syndicated blog articles, and a collection of original and aggregated content dealing with arts and entertainment, sports, business, spirituality and politics.
"In this historic presidential year, there's no better time to engage the African American community with this service," said Boykin. "The Internet is filled with web sites offering news and opinion to the black community, but until now, there has been no site that compiles all that content into one convenient place, while still allowing users to dialogue about the content," he said.
Harris believes the site will reach across the black community and appeal to a diverse audience of African Americans and others. "We hope to make this a welcome spot for all members of the community, whether they are young or old, Republican or Democrat, male or female, gay or straight," he said. "We won't just present the news and opinions from part of the community--all viewpoints have a space here."
