Video: Boykin and Miller debate New Yorker cover
Staff Reporter | Posted July 14, 2008 7:34 PMDaily Voice editor Keith Boykin and conservative radio host Kevin Miller today debated the New Yorker magazine's controversial cover depicting Barack and Michelle Obama as terrorists.
Appearing on CNN Headline News Monday evening, Miller defended the magazine's decision as satire and blamed the "outrage industry" for making an issue out of it. "Barack Obama shouldn't be above reproach," said Miller. "He's in the big leagues now."
Boykin responded to CNN anchor Mike Galanos that the magazine had the right to publish the material but argued that it was "tasteless and offensive." Boykin said "In my entire political career, Mike, I have never seen a political candidate, a presidential candidate subjected to so much hateful treatment as Barack Obama has been subjected to so far."
"I don't read the New Yorker, but I'm going to go out and buy one," Miller replied. "In a way, this is a huge positive for Barack Obama because he's dealing with it now in July as opposed to October or November," he said.
