Colin Powell endorses Obama

Like it does with most Blacks, the Republics USED Colin Powell like a toilet, fed him total BS, used his sway, and sent him to be a Negro Mistral on the UN Stage and make the case for war. Colin knows this too, hence his STINGING characterization of the Republican campaign. I give him props not for backing Obama, I give him props for RIPPING the Republican Campaign a new asshole, all well deserved. Colin's endorsement is second to the new asshole he ripped in them. Thanks Colin for standing up!

Colin, what a gimick. That UN performance is how history will remember him.

Mr. Powell's endorsement is on a list of other major endorsements and only time will tell us if it will make a difference. When you see the polls and the haughtiness and ignorance of Senator McCain and Gov. Palin's ticket it makes you wonder if any endorsement makes a difference for Senator Obama. Senator Obama would be ahead by a larger percentage if he was a white candidate. We're back to square one. America seems to want to remain in it's narrow racist focus and the rest of the world will sure turn it's back on us and our broken down economy. We've come a long ways, but have we really. The choice of Governor McCain is an insult to women everywhere. Someone needs to tell her that there is a big difference in running for the Vice President and Miss America.

Out of all the debates I thought Tom Brokaw had the lamest. Today I applaud the way he handled this interview. I am glad he went back and had Powell explain why he stood on that platform in 2000 and supported what he knew had to be a cruel joke, Bush/Cheney. I applaud his asking pointed questions of why he took so long to come out for Obama. I have always felt it was not until Powell got into the administration that he figured out not only was he on the wrong team but he was sunk regardless of what he did. If he stood up and walked out signaling to the world they were being hoodwinked he and Alma might have been killed by carbon monoxide poisoning in their home or a tractor trailer crossed the road and hit them head on, if you get my drift. (Anybody out there ever question how peculiar it was when Sen. John Tower died in a small plane crash right after he started raising hell about being passed over for Sec. of Defense in the first Bush administration back in the 80's. Nope, no one did). Now, if Obama is elected, you can get your well meaning organization, Empower America, back on track. The contributions should start coming back in soon. At least I hope they do. Unfortunately, because of your deep knowledge of what was going on but your deafening silence, I can not support your being placed in an administration position. Sorry general. You know what the price would be for failure when you deal with people like Bush/Cheney and company. And fail they did. After the Persian Gulf war you became a very wealthy man with your book deal and speaking fees. Wither or not you get back in you will not live in poverty. Consider yourself lucky and proud that your judgement is still newsworthy and the entire nation paused to hear it. AND PEOPLE PLEASE DON'T FORGET TO VOTE. IF YOU KNOW YOU DO NOT LIKE WAITING IN LONG LINES, WHICH WILL NOT DOUBT BE THE CASE AT THE POLLS, THEN CALL YOUR LOCAL BOARD OF ELECTIONS AND REQUEST AN ABSENTEE BALLOT. THANK YOU.

Obama and the DNC has laid the road to victory for the country. Now it's our time to do our part, vote early is the most important thing to do right now!!!! Thanks Colin Powell. It was the right choice. McCain quickly tried to list other former SOS's who endorse him but has troubled people including outright war criminals. These bands of liars, thieves and murders have been dividing, conquering and knocking us Americans down. As Joe Biden said today "Get up! Get up! Get up!" To All Republicans of Color. Note how many in Republican quarters are now declaring Colin Powell's actions are driven by race, period. In other words, your "brothren" Republicans in a nanosecond have chosen to attack, marginalize, and diminish a man like Colin Powell. Enough said.

After this endorsement, Colin Powell can proclaim that he was a head scratching, foot shufflin' Uncle Tom only 90% of the time.

I scanned 4 republican blogs. they all are saying Colin's endorsement is about race and _nothing_ else. Unbelievable. The lesson? Step out of line with the conservatives and instantly you become a N___er.

Just shortly after Powell's announcement, Ed Gordon was on Harball with Chris Matthews. Chris Matthews harped on the idea that Colin Powell's sole reason for endorsing Obama was because he was Black [tribal reasons]. Tribal reasons is what has driven most white male politicians in America. I guess Chris only saw it fair to apply the same ideology to Collin Powell, which I found unfair. However, Ed Gordon turn the same questioning back on the host and the moment was timeless. No one questions white people when they vote for candidates who are white, and historically that has been the case. Yet, let another powerful Black man endorse another powerful Black man and the very act goes into question. Please! Kill the plantation politics and stick with the facts. Collin Powell clearly stated his reasons for supporting Obama and mentioned that there is something to be said about being a part of electing the first Black president. He didn't say "I am voting for the brother man". Leave it at that and respect Powell's choice. I am a fan of Hardball, but boy was I proud of Ed Gordon for setting the record straight and sticking it to Chris Matthews. Thanks Ed!

You can go to google.com, put in the words board of election and then your city and state and the address and contact number will come up. People let's not forget back in the 80's the race for governor of California (Tom Bradley vs George Dukemajian) was decided by absentee ballots. If you know you have a voting age child, sibling, parent, relative, friend neighbor or whatever you can remind them they can vote this way too. H.Smart I saw the entire Hardball yesterday and I agree with you 300%! Why now are these people belittling Colin Powell's endorsement of Barack to the race issue. Are they for real? For the last what 100 years or more have African-Americans had a choice on who we were going to vote for when it came to the Presidential choice. The answer is hell no we haven't! They've all been white and we had to choose between two white men. Not white women,black men or women, hispanic,asian,gay or any other person besides a white man. The reason I am voting for Barack is that he is a Black qualified man to do and get the job done. What else are they going to say about this man. Colin Powell is a well respected man and if he had endorsed McCain then he would be"the respected man with the qualification of picking a qualified candidate! I agree with you stop the plantation politics and please stick to the issues and stop discrediting African-Americans for theie intelligence and qualifications.

Some, not all, of these bigots don't have the intelligence to select someone based on the content of character and their qualifications. Senator Obama still has to deal with a double standard in this country. However, the rest of the world is looking at us with a critical eye and right now they are taking a dim view of our foolishness.

Can we stop with the finger pointing already. I want to believe. I want to do the right thing. I want a change. But to tear down a man to support another isn't my cup of tea. We must do more than quote Martin Luther King. We must look at what he said and believe it. We must act upon it. Only then can and will a true change come. Change comes from within and then spreads abroad. Perhaps I would have been changed and believed Barack Obama had he stood up against the media and chastised them for their treatment of Hillary Clinton. When the media made Bill out to be a racist, Obama should have stood up and said "No Way. This man is anything but a racist". But Obama sat idly by and said nothing. When John Lewis compare John McCain and Sarah Palin to the 60's segregationist, Obama should have spoke out and said, "this isn't how I want to win this race. If I am to win it will be fair and square and without the so called labels that others are throwing my way. I am an agent of change." But he didnt' instead he got in the murk and filth with them. I want to believe but I need to see a change completely.

It is amazing how conservatives treat their own. Linbaugh and bucchanon said that it was based on race. That crazy seeing that the reason they don't like Obama is because of his race. I hope after hearing thos two idiots that Black conservatives rise up and stop being blind and or stupid.

Robjh1, your entire post is an education on contradictions. In your first sentence you implore others to stop pointing fingers. Yet, in the ensuing ones, you do just that--point fingers. Is pointing figures an unfair thing to do unless they are pointed at Obama?

I am sorry but this has everything to do with race...and there is nothing wrong with it..this is the first time i have ever agreed Rush Limbaugh( and it will be the last) But his statement was right on. Lambaugh wrote "Secretary Powell says his endorsement is not about race,",OK, fine. I am now researching his past endorsements to see if I can find all the inexperienced, very liberal, white candidates he has endorsed. I'll let you know what I come up with." Midwest Guy, you learn fast, but slightly missing my point. My missive was intended to be a contradictory of the change agent all are talking about. How can a person be for change when he isn't standing up for that which hasn't changed, but instead going down the same line. Two wrongs don't make a right. If you are for change you change. I guess you are now pointing fingers.

What is this "it's our chance"? How's chance? I am trying to bring myself to supporting Obama and you folks are making it seem as though he is only where he is because he is black and it's finally time. What about the man being skilled and accomplished? What about he just might be the right person at the right time. Don't lessen his accomplishments and make it seem as though he is only there because he is the only black man with that degree of intelligence. There are plenty of other qualified blacks who just aren't interested in politics. C'mon.

I knew as soon as I listened to Colin Powell's endorsement of Obama yesterday on Meet the Press that the Republican right wing would go after him today. Needless to say, I was not disappointed. In the past, they have touted Colin Powell as having had the capacity of being the first African-American President but rest assured they are going to try to bring the Brother down as a result of his support for Obama.

1914inches, why does Powell have to justify any of the charges set forth by the conservatives [code word for whites]? Do we ask white candidates about their motives when they vote for white candidates? I think we need to start respecting ourselves and our leaders enough to be able to take a stance based on principals. It's a slave's mentality to act based on fear of being judged as "one of them negroes". If that's how the conservatives what to see it, leave them to their misery. The fact is, Powell is not just a Black man. He is an intellect with his own mind. I think we are so condition to stay in our place that we fail to view each other from a place of "value" and not "nigga". Powell shouldn't have to say anymore than he already has. We need to stop trying to be validated by white people and start believing that we matter in this society. Again, kill the plantation politics.

Powell will be the rock that Obama can use to brace himself at moments of crisis. We need a man Obama can really trust without hesitation or backstabbing. Colin wouldn't be a yes man for Obama but rather a man he can really have good debate and council on foreign policy. Obama will be the smartest person to ever take office in a very long time. I feel very comforted with this man and his judgment. OBAMA/BIDEN08!

So, Powell endorsed Obama. BIG WHOOP. It doesn't changes the fact that the man has zero credibility and has blood on his hands. I saw the interview on "Meet The Press." I heard him tell that story about that musilum soldier dying for his country and being noble and patriotic. Well, if he didn't make that speech too the U.N. that soldier wouldn't been in harm's way in the first place. Sorry folks, but an endorsement from Powell is too little too late. Again SCREW HIM!!!

If you don't think racial solidarity is playing a huge roll in this election you are either: A- an idiot or B- are afraid to admit it, hence be called an Uncle Tom
