Obama campaigns on The Daily Show
Staff Reporter | Posted October 30, 2008 8:55 AM
Senator Barack Obama appeared on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart Wednesday night via satellite from Florida.
In the nearly 9 minute interview, Obama admitted that there may be a "certain segment of hard-core Sean Hannity fans that probably wouldn't want to go have a beer with me," but he added that the average voter is "trying to figure out whether I can hang on to my house or who is going to help me get a job or what about my health care."
Obama also addressed the GOP charges of socialism by repeating a joke he's used on the campaign trail in recent days. "The evidence of this seems pretty thin. I said today that I think they found proof that when I was in kindergarten I shared some toys with my friends," he said. 'That's clearly a sign that of subversive activity now, I can tell you, Jon, that being on your program I think is further evidence of these tendencies," he added.
Asked about the possibility that white voters may decide against him in the privacy of the voting booth, Obama said, "They've been saying that for awhile but we're still here. So I don't think white voters have gotten this memo about the Bradley effect."
Stewart also mentioned Obama's biracial background and asked the candidate "Are you concerned that you may go into the voting booth and ... your white half will all of a sudden decide, 'I can't do this.'"
"That's a problem," Obama deadpanned. "I've been going through therapy to make sure that I vote properly on the 4th."
