Its been a long time coming....now as Obama...rather President Obama has stated so eliquently the real work has to begin!!! We cannot rest on our victory...savor it , celebrate it however the next four years will really be the legacy! Let's work just as hard to make OUR LEGACY a GREAT ONE!!!!!

I congratulate many of you for choosing a man that people of the world like me also feel is by far a better choice with strong interests for global civilised engagement and pluralistic governance.

The national result show that the race was close. So to get so many votes from the electoral collage is testimony of a good strategy and hard work.

And to those who wondered whether Obama was going to forget about minorities - I doubt that McCain would have even mentioned the word gay in his celebration speech.

Black people, start taking personal responsibility, go to school, stop breaking records killing yourselves with HIV/AIDS, how about you all getting married before having babies? If it were joy he should have been jumping up and down like he did when Harold Washington was elected mayor. I can give you countless other examples of Blacks reaching the very top of their profession however the point is Blacks, for the most part, have failed to recognize and be inspired by Blacks at the very top of traditionally "White" domains. If you need a Barack Obama to be the President to get your act together, to become responsible, inspired, etc, that's rather pathetic. In 4 years when Black highschool graduation levels are still dismal, few Black males are in college, Blacks are still killing each other in record numbers with HIV/AIDS, Blacks are still reliant on social welfare programs in disproportionate numbers.....what will be your excuse? You sound as if without Obama being President, there would be no reason to have hope. Nonsense. Hope starts from within, even if you don't have a pot to piss in. Hope and ambition starts from self, and Blacks hate each other in large numbers (embracing use of the word Ni##er, etc., degrading women as Ho's in videos, etc). You really think Black youth is going to develop self esteem from Obama? Do you think the N word will be put to rest? No More Ho's with no clothes on videos? No. If the Reginal Lewis's and Oprah's that have been out there a long time have not inspired Blacks, I don't see Obama either, especially when he lowers the boom on Blacks and lets them know the gravy train welfare entitlement mentality and culture is over. PRAYER ON THIS HISTORIC ELECTION O Righteous and Divine Father God, I bowed my head in humble adoration as I bowed my knees in thanksgiving, and acknowledgement that You, and You only are the Most High. I praise You, Father, for what You ordained, and designed to manifest. There is no doubt that You decisively governed in this process. Power, indeed, belongs to You. Your word proclaims, “For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.” (Psalm 75: 6, 7). This moment in history speaks volumes to so many in manifold ways. We are sincerely grateful, Father, for Your involvement in the placement of Barack Obama as our next President of this nation. We exalt You for Your choice, and for how You allowed this to unfold. We give You the glory because it is truly Yours in deed!!! Lord, everyone, of course, is not pleased with Your selection. I pray for those who are discontented with the outcome of this election process. Certainly, You love everyone but You are the final authority in all affairs. You created each and every one of us, and only You know what is best for all concerned. Help us all, Lord, to accept Your actions with love for You, and the awareness that only You are sovereign. I revere you, and admittedly do not always understand why you perform as you do. Many times we question why you allow much of what occurs in life. That said, you never command us to understand You – You do command that we love, obey and trust You. Your word states, “For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.” (Psalm 33:9). Thank You, Lord, for what You spoke, and performed. I am convinced, that as You informed me some time ago, You also informed others that Obama would win. You forbid me to speak about the process or to express what you had revealed. You instructed to pray fervently about His placement in accordance with Your decision to give him the win. I did that, and followed your instructions to follow the progress through viewing, and listening to the programming etc. You did allow me to say frequently, “It ain’t over till it’s over.” But you told not to engage in any deep comments or dialogue. I suspect that that was the same with others who You told that Obama would win. Thank you that we were able to obey. Certainly, it could not have been done without You. Again, Your word, “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:11). Father, please help Obama to engage more with You, and to continually seek Your counsel. Remind Him that You are the Most High, and that obedience to You is crucial in his personal life, and career. Provide him with the necessary spiritual counsel from proven holy men, and women of God. Send him the help that he needs to govern in this nation. Send him people of integrity who are astute, skilled, confident, humble, and inclined to add to him, and what he is charged with doing. Equip him, dear Lord, with energy, and profound wisdom with knowledge to understand that which is complex, and unchartered. Impart to him the confidence that is befitting the head of a nation but keep him mindful that humility is vital to rule. Help those in his administration to unite with him for the good of this country, and the global exercises that must be addressed. And please, appoint people to work with him who are not afraid to respectfully correct his misguided positions. We the people need to realize that he is a man who cannot do it all nor should he be expected to get everything right. Words cannot express the joy and satisfaction that I feel today. Not only was Obama elected, my home state (Michigan) also voted to allow the use of medicinal marijuana for those with chronic illnesses/pain & also voted to allow research using stem cells. A historic day indeed!!

Okay Black people this has now entered the bizarro world. Some of you act as if Sweet Jesus has risen. Think about it. Obama is PRO CHOICE, he will appoint PRO CHOICE Supreme Court Justices. There's something very weird about bestowing prayer to this measure above, this extent, on a President who affirms a person's right to kill a 12 week old fetus or baby (take your pick). But since he's BLACK, you hardcore religious folk, like the person presenting the prayer won't hold Obama to a true religious standard consistent with your words above, will you? This is how it will work for Obama, Blacks will choose to "play dumb" and not be consistent and hold Obama to the same standard a White President. Above is one example. The other that this sight avoids like the plague is Obama has said repeatedly Marriage is only to be between 1 Man, and 1 Woman, that's it. Obama IS NOT PRO GAY MARRIAGE. Obama has his "seprate but close to equal but not quite" standard. But since he's BLACK, we won't hold him to the same standard and demands we would a White guy. This is the new future, Blacks surrendering their souls, for the Black Baby Jesus also known as Obama!

The most important thing about this moment for me as an African American is we can now amend the statement in the history books that we where slaves. Now we can say we went from being slaves to being Commander and chef of the most powerful country in the world. Now the hard part of putting this country back together. Let's go!

Today was a great day for all of America. Tomorrow, we can start working to fix things, but today was one to just bask in the glow of this moment.

I have never been more proud to be an American. This country is really amazing. 8 years ago I was wondering what went wrong with this country when it allowed George Bush to steal an election and ruin everything he touched. I was one of the thousands of angry protestors at his inaugaration. What a difference 8 years makes. I was in Washington last night and I have never seen people dance in the streets and swarm to the White House upon hearing the news of an election. People of all colors and ages were unified in their joy. It was truly an experience I will never forget. I went home later and saw Jesse Jackson crying on TV and I know those tears were real. He cried just like I did, my mother and my father and millionsof other African-Americans because we have finally seen our struggle for freedom and the struggles of our ancestors in this country fulfilled. God Bless America! God Bless Barack Obama!

My sister (we are both white) cried tears of joy when Obama won the presidency. Please, don't for even one minute think that it was only blacks who were happy. Many of us whites are also happy that a black man was able to win. It doesn't mark the end of racism, but it is a very important milestone. My fear now is that people may expect too much. No one, considering the challenges that the U.S. now faces, could meet everyone's expectations. Our various problems have been building for decades, and it will take more than two terms to solve them. Moreover, the president has far less power than many people seem to believe. He is not a divine-right king or a dictator. Unless he has the cooperation of Congress, he can do little. However, Obama is very charismatic and has a demonstrated ability to work well with a variety of people, so he can accomplish much.

It seems like most of you guys just want to remember the "more" positive things of this election. You have completely ignored the things that bring up questions, such as what Bob Lablah reminded you of about the mike not being off when Jesse Jackson made his comment about Mr. Obama and cutting his nuts off. Yes, the man puts on a good show when he knows the cameras are on him and maybe the mike is not off. And as far as the history books and the issue of slavery, the blacks are the ones who brought their own to America in the first place if you would read about how it all actually happened. I just hope that now that he is in the White House, that we don't have to worry about him owing favors to so many different people. Such as the mafia that he has been linked to and let's not forget the question of Mr. Bill Ayers. And at least CMoney didn't quote Michaelle Obama that "finally he was proud to be am American". I just hope that the ones who are so enthusiastically behind Obama realize that he is only a man making alot of promises as all politicians do. He can only do so much and when they run for these offices, especially President, they should be careful in what they promise they will do. And as in his speech last night, "we may not be able to do this in a year or two, or even in the first 4 yrs.", so people should be aware that he is not the saviour of America.

I am glad that not many racists are in here to spoil the mood. Just ignore anonymous. He is clearly in pain. I am even glad that Jesse Jackson cried, jealousy aside, that was awesome. I am glad that so many white people, especially white women, HRC's friends I think, supported the man. And dont forget the students across all campuses. This was a US version of a students' uprising. Dont you forget, this is not only a black victory, but a victory of all those who believe in fairness and justice. Civilisation.

Regardless of what Barak nor McCain claimed they would not do most of us who have what could be passed of as a brain already know is going to HAVE to happen. We are all going to have to pay more in taxes whether we LIKE IT OR NOT. You can not fight two wars at a cost of 15 billion dollars per month for nearly 6 years and then create a 1 trillion dollar bailout package with no money in the treasury to back it up. We are printing money on the scale of Zimbabwe and Uganda under Idi Amin. The bill has already come due but the general populace is to stupid to realize where we are financially. Tell them they are getting a $1000 tax break and not one of them will question why subway fares, tolls, parking and traffic tickets increase by leaps and bounds. Now he has to come up with more paper money (with nothing to back it up) to save the auto industry because 250,000 jobs that are connected with the industry will vanish overnight if he can't find a gimmick to keep it going. And last but not least if he does not save the companies of the very jews on Wall Street who created this mess in the first place under Bush they are going to call him an anti-semite. They will get results because the jews know they can and will get the support of ignorant white people who voted for McCain. Yes folks, the brother has a mess on his hands to deal with. BUT YES WE CAN. Or should I say YES WE MUST.

Most of the Congressional Black Congress never wanted to see this day and fought like hell for Miss Hillary Clinton. Now they jump on the bandwagon and act as if this is their long hard and fought for dream? Revisionist history abounds. She was 110% hardcore Hillary, Obama rising was NEVER her dream. One of the only people who were brave, risked something is Oprah. Oprah took a position early, upset many, Oprah took a stand.

Thrilling victory. But so far Obama's transition team looks more like a third term for Bill Clinton (though I doubt we'll see a Monica Lewinski or hear any saxophone riffing at the White House). But so far he's got John Ponetta as team leader. Rahm Emmanuel as chief of staff. And word has it that he's now choosing between two other Clinton veterans to head up his national security team. These are seasoned and talented folks to be sure. But let's face it: the more Obama top-loads his team with Clinton cronies--the harder it will be to create "real change." When you throw Biden into the mix (a centrist foreign policy guru), all I see so far is the same old Capitol Hill. In fact, we're probably seeing the same faces that we'd see if Hillary were president-elect. But it's obviously still quite early. And in the end, we'll hopefully see a more balanced mix of old Clinton vets and new faces with new ideas. It will be fascinating to watch him put this together. I sure hope that his friend and advisor Iranian-born Valerie Jarret gets a good seat at the table. She's amazing. But now that the election is over, it's important that we IMMEDIATELY focus on accountability. We need to Obama--and ourselves--accountable for fulfilling the grand promise of change.

Yeah Oprah created a 1/3 of Obama. I mean those women crying on the lawns were definately Oprah's crew.

Annonymous. I have read nothing but negativity in every comment you have made here. Why don't you just decide to accept the fact that President Obama (it felt really good to type that) has brought about an whole new meaning of togetherness for this country. I will admit that I was not on the Obama train in the beginning and neither was Hillary Clinton for that matter, but she was able to stop the direction that she was going in and humble herself to at least show support for a cause. I started in this as an official promoter of Hillary Clinton because she was the name that I knew. I didn't follow politics too much, but to see that Hillary could stand down and promote togetherness and push Obama's campain, I figured that I should maybe pay more attention to what the man had to say. I found after listening to some of the issues that he brought about that I really could see him being the next President and now he is the next President. So, if you have an ounce of humility left you would do the same and stop promoting so much negativity and "jump on the bandwagon" as you like to call it and promote a little unity. President Obama can't do this alone and people like you make it that much harder to achieve the greater goal by being judgemental. If you can judge all of the people that you have in your comments I can't help but begin to wonder about you personally. You have told us so much about what everyone else has done and what black people are doing to themselves and each other. What are you doing to promote any form of change. You might want to point that finger that you are pointing at so many other people at yourself. In closing, everyone knows that together we make a tight seal that can't be broken and WE ALL STAND UNITED WITH PRESIDENT OBAMA AT THE FRONT LINE.

Makes me happy to know, that America can finally live up to the ideals..."Liberty and Justice for all". Washington has been run by the "good ole boys" for far too long. Obama was a much needed change.

Thank you Tee for being so eloquent and open in your comment. I feel that this person sounds very, very unhappy with all of the negativity that is constantly unleashed on this site. While the rest of us are truly overwhelmed and excited about a change in this country, people like this come on the site to just be contrary and attack. Those very tactics were some of the reasons the Palin/McClain ticket failed. I feel that the country truly wants to move forward with change.

I'm so happy Obama won..I'm African living in Toronto/Canada...Obama really brings a wind of change that's uplifting people accross the globe..It's AMAZING!! I understand that he has a lot of issues to tackle nationally as well as internationaly, but his positive outlook on the world will bring people together and help resolve issues..He is a hard-worker, good strategist(His campain proves it) and will inspire people to follow his exemple..
