Et tu, Terrence?
Staff Reporter | Posted February 18, 2009 11:40 AM
Former Chris Brown supporter Terrence Howard was once arrested for assaulting his girlfriend, according to a new report from The Smoking Gun Web site.
The site, which specializes in publishing police reports and mug shots from celebrity defendants, located an 8-year-old police report from the Whitemarsh, Pa. police department.
The September 2001 incident took place after Howard and his girlfriend argued on the phone and the actor allegedly told her: "Don't disrespect me by hanging up on me or I'll come over and hurt you." The woman then "hung up and contacted 911 fearing Howard was serious." While she was speaking with a police dispatcher, Howard "showed up at the victim's residence and began breaking the door down," according to the report.
The 39-year-old actor was forced to apologize recently when he defended R&B singer Chris Brown after his arrest for assaulting a woman on the weekend of the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. "It's just life, man. Chris is a great guy. He'll be alright," Howard said at the time.
Howard later expressed regret at his own remarks. "When they asked me about Chris Brown the other day, I was in no way aware of what he had been accused of," Howard said. "Had I known, I would have never had said something so insensitive."
Despite Howard's apology, the smoking gun argues that the actor's "own rap sheet offers an explanation as to why he would jump to the side of an accused domestic abuser."
Howard is an Academy Award-nominated actor who starred in the critically-acclaimed film Hustle & Flow.
