Yes, Yes, Lincoln was a Republican and Davis was a Democrat. I get so tired of this argument. Abraham Lincoln's primary goal was to keep the Union together, not to free the slaves. In fact, once he wrote the Emancipation Proclamation he did not even have authority over Southern plantation owners, who owned slaves. The Union had already split and the Confederate States of America, with Jefferson Davis at the helm, governed the southern states that actually declared a secession, particularly those southern most states holding African American slaves, such as Georgia, Mississippi, and Alabama, etc. Whereas, Southern border states such as Kentucky, Missouri, and Maryland did not declare secession and, therefore, were not expected by the Republican run Union to free their slaves, and did not. Yes Lincoln was a Republican, but not necessarily a saviour. Of course, Republicans will always make Mr. Lincoln their poster boy for African American progress. Yet some that I have encountered have confederate flags on their bumper stickers, which brings me to Rush. His image of the black family is most likely a stereotypical one, so what does he know any how? He is a joke and really not worth the effort. Judging from his physical appearance, he won't be around too much longer. Put the ham and the butter down Rush, or not.

Whoever, would have freed the slaves then would have been most likely, Republican, since the Democrats were trying with great fervor to expand slavery as far west as the Pacific Ocean. So, I have to give credit where credit is due. But I also have to look at the facts, and it is no secret that the motivation to abolish slavery by Northern (Republican) politicians and business men was inspired by more a lot than only freeing black slaves. I do believe that expansion and congressional representation was key in the debate over slavery prior to the civil war.

I find this amusing since Rush and the rest of the GOP has done nothing but vilify blacks to win elections since Goldwater, especially in the deep South and the Southern Strategy and now he has some concern for black issues?? This man is a racist and an idiot. I really do not care what Rush Lamebutt thinks or who listens to him. History people has shown us that neither party has truly done the "Right Thing" out of concern for the black community.
