Jesse: Michael Jackson's doctor's behavior 'bizarre'
Staff Reporter | Posted July 6, 2009 10:12 AM
The Rev. Jesse Jackson is once again weighing in on the conduct of Michael Jackson's doctor in the hours surrounding the pop star's death.
Jackson spoke to reporters over the weekend and updated them about the Jackson family and how family matriarch Katherine Jackson is holding up. But Jackson also discussed family concerns about Michael Jackson's physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, who was with Jackson at the time he lost consciousness.
In a video interview posted on the Associated Press YouTube page, Rev. Jackson refers to "the rather bizarre behavior of the doctor."
According to Jackson, Dr. Murray "did not call, did not talk with the cororner, did not sign the death certificate, couldn't be found for awhile and his car was impounded, and then he shows up with a lawyer, which creates all of these suspicions."
Recent media reports have focused on whether Jackson was given drugs by Murray and whether any such drugs might have contributed to the singer's unexpected death.
Edward Chernoff, a lawyer for Dr. Murray reportedly would not confirm or deny whether Murray gave Jackson an anesthesia drug called Propofol, which is often used in surgical procedures. The drug was reportedly found in Jackson's home.
But the same lawyer reportedly had no problem confirming that Dr. Murray did not give Jackson OxyContin or Demerol the day Jackson passed away.
"Dr. Murray became Michael Jackson's private physician only in May of 2009, and whether there were any other problems in the past, if they are not revealed to Dr. Murray, of course he's not going to know about them," Chernoff said.
After Dr. Murray determined Jackson did not have a pulse, the doctor attempted to use force to compress the pop star's heart to keep the blood circulating, according to Chernoff's account. Chernoff said Dr. Murray kept a pulse through the entire time before emergency personnel arrived at the house.
