1:45 p.m. Queen Latifah appears on stage. Latifah describes Michael Jackson as the "biggest star on Earth." She then reads a poem called "We Had Him" from Maya Angelou about Jackson:
We had him. Now we know that we know nothing. Now that our bright and shining star can slip away from our finger tips like a puff of summer wind...walk our dances across the face of the moon. in the instant we learn that michael is gone we know nothing...Though we are many each of us is achingly alone, piercingly alone. Only when we confess our confusion can we remember that he was a gift to us, and we did have him. He thrived with passion and compassion, humor and style. We had him. Whether we knew who he was or did not know. He was ours and we were his. We had him. Beautiful, delighting our eyes...took a pose on his toes for all of us...He gave us all he had been given. Today in Tokyo, beneath the Eiffel Tower, in Ghana's Black Star Square, in Johannesburg and Pittsburgh, in Birmingham, England and Birmingham, Alabama, we are missing Michael Jackson. But we do know we had him and we are the world.
1:40 p.m. A diamond-studded Mariah Carey struggles to sing "I'll Be There." She introduces Trey Lorenz to complete the duet. She finishes with "We never will say goodbye. Even through the pain and heartache, we will be right there. Thank you Jesus. We miss you."

1:32 p.m. A gospel choir appears on stage and sings "Soon And Very Soon." As the choir sings the verse, "Soon and very soon, we are going to see the king," Jackson's body is rolled into the stadium in a casket. Michael's brother Jermaine is among the pall bearers.
1:31 p.m. Twenty minutes have passed since Smokey Robinson showed up on stage. The TV shows are talking about Jackson's life now. The networks have pulled out all the stops for this service. All the major networks have pre-empted their regular coverage to show the service live today. NBC deploys anchor Brian Williams. ABC uses anchor Charlie Gibson. ABC brings out anchor Katie Couric. CNN features anchor Anderson Cooper.
1:11 p.m. Smokey Robinson appears on stage at the Staples Center and reads letters from Diana Ross and Nelson Mandela.

While I could feel Paris' pain I could also see her strength, her love and the pride she must feel for her Dad. I was paying particular attention to Paris and her brothers whenever the camera went their way. Unlike her brothers who looked to me like they were eating something, Paris seemed to be listening very attentively to the speakers and was sometimes the first in the family row to stand during the many standing ovations. It seemed to me she was likely very moved by the service and the spirit of love that filled the Staple Center. The service was quite lovely IMO. I can certainly see how her spirit would be filled witnessing such a celebration of love and respect for her Dad. I'm guessing she did not want to leave the occasion without making her own public expression of love.
I was proud of Paris for wanting to make a statement. I pray that the media leave them alone and allow those children to grow-up normally. I looks like they are in good hands with their Granny and all the love surrounding them in the Jackson family.
