Michael Jackson's doctor speaks out for first time
Staff Reporter | Posted August 18, 2009 5:25 PM
Facing charges of manslaughter for the death of pop star Michael Jackson, Dr. Conrad Murray broke his silence on Tuesday and released a new video to thank his friends and supporters.
The one-minute video posted on YouTube is the first time Murray, 56, has spoken publicly since Jackson died on June 25, according to the New York Times.
"I want to thank all of my patients and friends who have sent such kind e-mails, letters and messages to let me know of your support and prayers for me and my family," Murray said in the video, which does not mention Michael Jackson by name.
"Because of all that is going on, I am afraid to return phone calls or use my e-mail. Therefore, I recorded this video to let all of you know that I have been receiving your messages," he said.
Murray was with Jackson at the time of his death, and some suspect that his actions may have led to the death of the recording star. But Murray gave no indication in the video that he was worried by the charges.
"Your messages give me strength and courage and keep me going. They mean the world to me. Please, don't worry. As long as I keep God in my heart and you in my life, I will be fine."
The video release comes on the same day when news was revealed that Jackson will be buried on what would have been his 51st birthday on August 29 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
