Anyone who has actually *read* the bill sees the language plain and simple. Illegal aliens are NOT covered. Everyone shows identification and have legal ss#'s proving citizenship before they could participate. It's not a matter of refusing amendments for enforcement, there is NO need to enforce anything. We will continue to pay for their health care and they will not be required to get insurance as the rest of will be. (read the bill, you will be fined if you don't get insurance) Medicare is going bankrupt fast and its is being used as an example of what to expect from the new health care plan. Obama said he can pay for this plan without adding to the deficit or with new taxes and then later states that 1 tenth of 1 percent in savings in health care costs would cut a trillion off the deficit. How does cutting my individual cost of health care suddenly become new revenue for the government to pay for this plan, unless of course I am in for a huge tax hike. How can covering more people with less money happen unless care is being compromised. Have we become so stupid that we can't even do simple math anymore? I respectfully would like to express how disappointed I am on Rep. Wilson display of uncivil outburst he had towards our president. Although I do respect Rep. Wilson’s right to show any disagreement towards the President’s Health Plan, his choice of words as well as the place and time he chose to make them where unbecoming from a gentleman who is a member of congress. What saddens me the most is to see that he called our president a liar on national television without even having the facts straight. Section 246 provides in relevant part that “NO FEDERAL PAYMENT FOR UNDOCUMENTED ALIENS. Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States." While the bill states that illegal immigrants are not eligible for the new taxpayer-funded affordability credits,there is nothing in the bill to enforce this provision. Congress defeated efforts to require the use of the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) program. More than 70 other programs of this kind use SAVE. Democrats defeated this SAVE provision in committee, which would have enforced the provision. This is the same as police officers not enforcing traffic laws. Why would Democrats do this? As an American of Hispanic descent, I'm ashamed to say that because of pressure from the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, which believes that illegals from Latin America are entitled to entitlements offered to American citizens, Congress buckeled and so di the President.

The proposed bill(s) do say that people here illegally are not covered, but in the fine print it says that they must "self certify" that they are here legally. QED, illegals will end up being covered, and this is deliberate on the part of our lying "leaders" in DC. Congress recently rejected an amendment that would have plugged up this hole in the scheme. At the time the US was populated by mainly European descendents and the largest minority was African descendents. Now African-Americans are the second largest minority after Latinos. Europeans descendents now make up less than 72% of the population and Latinos are the largest minority group at 14% and growing. It is estimated that the founding race of these United States will not exceed 50% in 25 years. At the time the Immigration and Naturalization Act of 1965 was passed by a Democratically controlled Congress, Senate and President it was stated by the sponsors of the bill that non-European immigrants would NEVER make up more than 2% of the TOTAL population of the US and that the desire of the bill was to NOT change the makeup of the US population but to enhance it. BUT the makeup of the US has changed and now we have HUGE minority populations that reside in our cities. These minorities maintain their own cultures and customs and have no desire to integrate into American society. So the Original intent of the Immigration and Naturalization Act of 1965 (according to it's Authors and Sponsors) was to enhance the American culture and what we got was a group that wanted the money but detested the culture. Now that's progress Democratic style; lie to get what you want and then change it to the way you wanted it to really be after you get it. In a free society, a person has the right to work and choose what to do with the fruits of their labors. Forcing by law someone to do something without compensation or proper compensation is itself the definition of slavery, which you libs are all supposed to be against. I have watched lawmakers in other countries throw punches at each other, throw glasses of water and even chairs, I always thought how sad that these grown adults in these countries act like lawless idiots when they are suppose to be the smartest and often the most elite in society. Not paid is relative. One of the cost cutting measures here is limiting pay for service. Doctors spend a lot of time and money training, and are businessmen and deserve compensation for this. With a limited possibilty of payment even though they all care about what they do, smart ones will choose a more profitable profession to enter. That is what has happened in Canada and the UK. Insufficient supply of doctors. Without doctors, who is the actual provider of free care? While on it, the bill provides something called self certification, which translates into just say you are. Still, as a caring society, we do want to take care of everyone, this just doesn't look like an effective plan. As far as the illegal aliens go, we need them, they provide a labor force in areas that Americans don't seem to want to do. A better solution to the whole thing would be giving them a way to be here legally and letting them pay taxes and have the corresponding access to services. Not the most popular opinion on my side maybe, but the way I feel.

We need to get some clarity. You want enforcement that somehow says that no money will go to pay for care that "illegal" people receive.

This is not possible in the current health care system or future one and shouldn't be:
1) UNLESS you want doctors to not be paid for emergency care they provide (insurance companies/Wall Street win, Main Street loses)
2) UNLESS continuing and increasing the specialization vs. primary care imbalance ultimately costs less for the American public (specialization costs more).

As you are obviously aware, fixing the current system is better than destroying it to build a whole new inoperative one. Much of the stress we put on doctors is the stress of trying to get insurance payments for care provided and to pay bills.

People who love and want to do medicine and health care... love and want to do medicine and health care. They don't want to have to hire extra staff or spend money outsourcing the handling of mountains of paper (old school).

Again, doctors should be paid and paid well for the sacrifice (or is it investment) of time they've given to learning but also for the quality of their care. It's an issue of the broader discussion of national spending.

It should NEVER be acceptable for "anyone" in this country to stand up, within a public forum and disrespect "The President of the United States". Regardless of whether or not Representative Wilson disagreed or agreed with the current Healthcare plan, there is plenty of time for debate and discussion on the floors of the House and Senate when it is time to vote on the bills. No Congressman should EVER be allowed to stand up and call "The President of the United States" a liar, or anything derogatory. What’s with the politicians in South Carolina? First, there was Governor Mark Sanford who showed a major lack of judgment in his position and a lack of respect for his family by clandestinely leaving the state in the lurch to visit his Argentinean mistress. Later, he further caused hurt and embarrassment to his family by publicly calling his lover his soul mate. Recently, Joe Wilson showed poor judgment and lack of respect by interrupting President Obama’s speech and calling him a liar. Whatever happened to southern hospitality? I am sure many residents of South Carolina are asking the same question. This lack of respect and restraint by Wilson shows how radical and out of control a segment of the Republican Party is becoming with their erratic behavior. These politicians supported by big money interests and certain media outlets, use scare tactics and untruths to fire up unwitting citizens, using them as pawns to help their cause of raking in the big bucks. Those encouraging their supporters to compare the president to Hitler and socialists are themselves using methods not unlike the Nazis and Communists who encouraged hate, caused fear, spread untruths, incited mobs, banned textbooks and worked to disrupt and shut down free speech. Sadly, these tactics in pitting citizen against citizen is causing a tremendous split in our country, setting a poor example for our children and have the potential to cause a division among Americans for years to come.

The Governor and the Senator of South Carolina needs to be replaced with people who actually have brains. Do they have a union and medical coverage?

There is a time and a place to disagree and to correct untrue and misleading statements; however, to call the President and your Commander-in-Chief a liar in full view of Congress and the world is scornful behavior. Joe Wilson is an American hero, standing up for the rights of all Americans who don't want to pay for benefits for illegals. The President has come up short on this issue and the Auto workers, if Mr. O would have passes legislation for cars getting 75 miles per gallon to get 100% tax deduction on the price of the an American made car by American car makers over seven years with no sales tax he would have done something right but only wants 45 mpg. How does that save the Auto industry or help the customer,and 7,500 tax break won't help the average worker get a head. The President setting his goals to low to help all Americans or global warming unless the car runs on peanut oil.

Sadly our country has been a debtor nation since before Obama and sadly again, he is keeping much of the system in place while trying to make it become more accountable and transparent.

He seems to be making it clear that at least right now, he's going to require changes but isn't going to demolish or literally (and that's a key word) "take over" what exists.
