Donnie McClurkin ramps up the ridiculous to speak in tongues and call gays "vampires". The infamously "ex-gay"--or should we say merely "re-closeted"--Grammy Award winning gospel singer and evangelist rants against gays, gay youth and recently out gospel singer Tonex at the Church of God in Christ's Holy Convocation Youth Service. This happened last Saturday at the COGIC convention in Memphis.
In the first of three disgusting YouTube videos, McClurkin begins his rant against Tonex, the gospel star who recently confirmed his long-rumored sexuality. McClurkin says Tonex is a "perversion" and must pray away the gay: "God did not call young people to such peversion. Society has failed him, his church has failed him ... I would be homosexual to this day if Jesus hadn't delivered."
McClurkin also rails against openly gay youth as "broken and feminine": "I see feminine men, feminine boys, everywhere I go ... No, don't applaud 'cuz it ain't funny. It's because we failed. I see them everywhere."
Quite rich coming from McClurkin. If anyone has seen him or the young men in his inner circle, well, let's say the observation about "feminine men everywhere" is spot-on.
In the second video, McClurkin turns his hate toward young lesbians: "These young girls are just as bad as the boys in homosexuality, you don't see it. They can hide ... but there are some evil young hard butch girls."
McClurkin's appearance at the COGIC youth conference is ironic. The rabidly anti-gay Church of God in Christ is well-known for attracting many closeted black gay men. COGIC is also embroiled in numerous lawsuits, criminal investigations and internal church investigations around clergy sexual abuse--there is a micro-site on the Church website. ReportCOGICAbuse and Gay Christian Movement Watch, websites created by alleged "ex-gay" Atlanta-based "DL" Foster (How you doin' DL!), chronicles COGIC sexual abuses. One church reportedly has four convicted pedophiles on its payroll. A COGIC deacon in Milwaukee was caught exposing himself in a gay cruising park. Foster applauds McClurkin's anti-gay rant. Birds of a feather....
McClurkin recently suggested he still had gay sexual urges and compared homosexuality to diabetes: "I don't eat sugar, but it doesn't mean that I don't want sugar." You are what you eat, Donnie. Via Rod 2.0 readers Former COGIC and Jason.: Watch McClurkin's unhinged rants below.

Ray,
Your comparison of "Christian" behavior concerning homosexuality as compared to other sexual conduct the Bible identifies as sin misses a key point.
The more heated outcry occurs with homosexuality because homosexuals want society to treat homosexuality as a positive thing rather than as a sin. Homosexuals want society to accept homosexuality as a norm as something to be proud about. That is completely antithetical to Christian teaching. That is turning the Bible on it's head when you want to say behavior that's classified as a sin is something good. Naturally there would be an outcry among Christian believers if that happened.
Unlike homosexuals, adulterers and fornicators aren't marching in fornication pride or adultery pride parades. They aren't attempting to change society's perception of adultery and fornication as sin. That's why you see a different response. Most adulterers still regard adultery as a sin and are ashamed if they get caught doing it. Being an unwed mother or father with a bunch of kids by a bunch of different women/men (so many in some instances you need a DNA test to determine fatherhood) is not a source of pride for most fornicators.

What homosexuals have you heard proclaim that you should be proud that we are homosexuals?
What you are doing is anthetical to Christian teachings and that is - YOU LIE! I have yet to meet a homosexual of any race proclaim that people should be PROUD that we are homosexuals. YOU LIE! The problem with your logic is that you are comparing people who are totally comfortable with themselves (gay pride paraders) vs the shame of those who commit adultery - who cheat on their spouses. YOU LIE!
I could give a rats anal cavity if you are proud of me or even like me. I could care less if you think I live a sinful life. I could even care less about the view from those of like minds.
What you should NOT do is preach behind a wall of intolerance and frankly there is absolutely no comparison between your prediposition with homosexuality and anything I have ever heard of coming from the mouth of Jesus nor his disciples. Don't offer to be God's mouthpiece but refuse to live like his only son. Take a walk in his shoes, regroup, and try this again.
YOU LIE!

As Christians we should treat everyone with love -- the adulterer, the fornicator, the homosexual, the heterosexual, everyone.
The crux of the issue between Christianity and homosexuality in the world today as I understand it, basically boils down to a disagreement over whether or not homosexuality is a sin. Many Christians understand the Bible to classify homosexuality as sin, right along with other Biblically based sexual immorality (i.e., adultery and fornication). If something is a sin, by definition it's not a good thing -- ergo the problem. I presume homosexuals do not regard homosexuality as sin. To the contrary, I presume they regard it as a good and positive form of human relationship. If you believe the Bible teaches that homosexuality is a sin and someone is telling you no, no that's not true -- homosexuality is a not a sin, there's nothing wrong with homosexuality -- there's going to be a conflict unless someone changes their mind. Personally I think this is the point of impasse when parties need to simply agree to disagree (i.e., whether homosexuality is sin or it's not sin).
That said, whether it's a sin or not is irrelevant to how I treat you as a Christian. As I understand it, we're all sinners saved by grace. Whether someone believes homosexuality is a sin or not is between them and their God or between them and whatever they believe in or if they don't believe in anything. The question does however pose a societal issue because every society has a set of established norms -- what's considered right and what's considered wrong. The whole sin question again -- is it right is it wrong?
With respect to pride, I'm not suggesting that gays desire me or anyone else to be proud of them. I'm saying that the "gay pride" movement reflects the notion that homosexuality is not a sin -- that homosexuality is a positive thing, a point of pride. I suspect it is modeled "somewhat" after the black pride movement (e.g., say it loud, I'm black and I'm proud).
Anyway, fellow poster Ray said we don't see a big outcry among Christians over adultery or fornication the way we do over homosexuality. I'm saying one possible reason is adulterers and fornicators are attempting to make the case that adultery and fornication is not a sin. They aren't attempting alter the societal norm with respect to that particular conduct.
I think you might need to look in the mirror on the "intolerance" tip. You're jumping all over me like I'm some kind of big bad nasty "intolerant" person when all I'm trying to do is have a respectful dialogue. The tone of your post sounds rather intolerant me.
In any event, as far as I'm concerned were all still brothers and sisters, and I'm still gonna love you whether you're gay, straight, transvestite, transgender, fornicating, adulterating whatever you're doing, whether it's a sin or not. My job is not to stand in judgment of you. My job is to love God and to love my neighbor as myself.

You don't to get to speak with authority on things which you are not and then offer the "wanting to have a respectful dialogue" defense. In a respectful dialogue, you don't speak for the other side, you engage them in their opinion. That's not what you did.
As a Christian, you should know what society> has already "accepted" homosexuality by passing federal hate crimes laws expanded to include us. Your bible still exists. There is only a matter of time before even more laws are passed in our favor. Your bible will still exist.
If proselytizing against homosexuality makes you feel like the A-Student in God's class, take a bow. The same goes for Donnie McClurkin. Your bible will still exist.

MidwestGuy,
I don't know what you mean when you say I don't get to speak with authority on things that I am not. Are you saying I'm trying to speak for gays? How do you come to that conclusion? I'm not speaking for anyone but myself, expressing my own understanding, as I presume you are.
Essentially all I have said is I understand the Bible to treat homosexuality as sin like other forms of behavior the Bible identifies as sin. I'm not the one who classified it as a sin, the Bible did, by my understanding of what it says.
I don't see any contradiction between society or the Bible regarding homosexuality as a sin and at the same time supporting inclusion of the LGBT community in hate crimes law. The fact that something is considered a sin doesn't mean it's okay to single people in that group and mistreat them.
In terms of society "accepting" homosexuality as the "norm" I think gay marriage is the benchmark on that score. I would not equate a prohibition against violence directed at the LGBT community as society saying homosexuality is the norm. The norm reflected in the hate crimes legislation is society does not condone hate based violence against groups of people.
I support inclusion of LGBT's within hate crimes law. I support converting our current marriage system to a system of civil unions for all (gay and straight). It's wrong to single out and mistreat gays just like it's wrong to single out and mistreat anyone else or any specified group.
In my view, because of the interface between religion and marriage and religion and whether sex with a person of the same gender is considered immoral sexual behavior (according to my understanding of the Bible) there will never be a meeting of the minds on these two questions. Whenever religious belief is part of the equation there will surely be an impasse. I accept the impasse and say lets secure rights for gay couples by converting our system to civil unions for all and take the religious components out of the equation for purposes of securing legal rights.

I am really tired of these imported, intolerant and violence - based religions. They are so the same.
Always promoted hatred. Come from the same violent region of the world.
Of all traditional societies I have lived in or learned about none does not treat gay, lesbian or transgender people with spiritual respect.
And then came the missionaries and crusaders preaching the most vile hatred against the self. When will we wake up?
