EMTs suspended after refusing to help pregnant woman

People should go thru official channels. If Bernie Goetz called 911 he would not have gotten into trouble.

DISCUSTING!!! MY HUSBAND IS AN EMT IN DENVER COLORADO AND HE WOULD NEVER WALK AWAY FROM SOMEONE IN NEED OF MEDICAL ATTENTION, ON OR OFF DUTY. I AGREE WITH THE MAYOR. FORGET YOUR DUTY AS AN EMT.....HOW ABOUT BEING A GOOD CITIZEN. KARMA IS GONNA GET THEM FOR SURE

I hear you Kerri Craig. Just give the names and addresses of these two and you don't have to worry about karma. Karma can take a day off for this one. We should put them within an inch of there lives and have a debate if we should call the EMT or have something to eat first. It had to be white EMT's because if it was Black ones their pictures would be all over the news.

I hope that criminal charges are brought against them. EMT's, doctors, nurses and law enforcement are duty bound to help those in need and if they fail, they are criminally liable. If you don't want your lunches or other breaks interrupted by an emergency, then why did you go into the emergency medicine?

To prosecute first you have to prove duty to act, if not on the clock they are just like you and me. Second, they did provide aid by calling 911. Third, did they have proper equipment with them to provide aid. Did they have gloves? I wont do CPR without a barrier device between me and the patient. Unless you can prove a duty to act, this is just a case of a lay person calling 911.

I called my friend who used to be an EMT worker and then became an NYPD officer after we finished college and asked him point black if these two EMT workers where duty bound to assist. He said YES they are duty bound and give EMT's a bad name. I agree with Mayor Bloomberg, forget breaks and work, there is somthing wrong when people lack simple human kindness. I was at work and two of my coworkers and I was talking about this and they made every excuse in the book for these EMT, which prompted me to call my friend. This reminds me of my culture shock when I first came to New York. I grew up in a small town where people said "Hi, Good Morning" and what not to each other. My coworker’s statements reminded me of the New Yorkers that looked at me like I was crazy just for saying good morning. I have now moved to Bayonne, N.J.a town like the small town I grew up in. People here say Hi or what not with out being prompted to. We talk to each other in the grocery store or at the bus stop. A couple of weeks ago, A woman on our block collapsed in her home and her friend called 911 but also ran out side to alert the neighborhood; it seemed like the whole block was there trying to help this woman who we only see in passing. Someone was a nurse and she applied CPR right on the spot with out gloves or anything, before EMT arrived. The experience not only warmed my heart, it helped me meet other neighbors and they talked about checking up on this woman when she got back. I am happy to announce that she did return home in good health and invited everyone over for Christmas. This is how people should treat each other.
