'All black people' told to leave NJ Wal-Mart
Staff Reporter | Posted March 18, 2010 11:39 AM
Imagine this. You're shopping at your neighborhood Wal-Mart store Sunday afternoon when you hear a voice on the P.A. system.
"Attention Wal-Mart customers: All black people leave the store now."
Sounds like a scene from apartheid South Africa or the pre-civil rights era segregated south. But it's actually what happened last Sunday at the Turnersville, New Jersey, Wal-Mart Supercenter Store.
Blacks complained to management, who in turn contacted the local police department in Washington Township. Police then opened an investigation with the county prosecutor's office. "The incident is being investigated by both law enforcement agencies as a suspected bias intimidation crime," officials told the press.
And the corporate office of Wal-Mart wasn't happy about the story or the negative publicity either. Wal-Mart is "just as appalled by this as anyone," a spokesman said. The company also described the incident as "unacceptable to us and to our customers" and said it was "reviewing our systems to prevent this from happening in the future."
Now two black South Jersey women are boycotting Wal-Mart, while the company says they're still trying to figure out who made the announcement.
Patricia Covington and Shelia Ellington told reporters they're too upset to shop at the store again. "In 2010, I want to know why such statements are being made because it flies in the face of what we teach them at home, and that's tolerance for people," Ellington told the press.
Following the incident, a public apology was made Sunday evening on the same public address system.
The 24-hour superstore reportedly employs about 700 workers, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
James E. Harris, president of the New Jersey NAACP Conference told reporters that the incident underscores the need for more racial reconciliation. "Whether it was a prank or whether it was serious, the level of insensitivity is apparent and is a reminder there's still a need for people to work toward decency and equality," he said.

Racism is a two-way street, if you are unable to get your children "minority" scholarships, then you are horribly inept as a parent. A very dear white friend was awarded a "minority" scholarship to attend Grad School at Morehouse. Another female friend (white) was awarded an engineering scholarship BECAUSE she was a woman (minority). So again, blame your ineptness as a parent not the system being stacked against you.
By the way, who are the blacks that have professed their hatred of whites?

As long as there are humans, you will get the Vicki Harris' of the world, and, sadly, there are racists in all races, some, are just more buffoonish online where they can hide and spew. Racists, like homophobes and other hate mongers come in all sizes, shapes and colors, and, all are that way as they were taught it as a child. This sounds like some silly kid and a prank, but,it should be investigated to make sure it does not happen again and that the thoughts do not extend to the hiring office.
And, for the poster qho had the question about White Entertainment TV, guess you've not yet been acquainted with Fox News?

You pick any successful Black person, and there are many, and you’ll hear a story of hardwork and the hurdles they’ve had to overcome. To make it big minorities have to work twice as hard just to stand shoulder to shoulder with their non-minority counterpart. Do me a favor and take a census poll of the top tier jobs and tell me who occupies these positions. After you’ve done that please explain to me if you think minorities are just as capable to do these same jobs. There will be a disconnect between the two answers and I would love for you to explain that as well.
Responses such as yours only reflect and perpetuate the ignorance many live with. Until everyone understands and see the true ugliness that lies just beneath the pretty veneer there will be no true change. And, please don’t act like you live with such guilt about how Black people live. You live the life of a happy-go-lucky person on the outside looking in like we’re fish in a bowl. Until you walk a mile in another’s shoe please refrain from making uneducated comments and worse yet pretend like you’re carrying such pain inflicted on you by the many black people you’ve had contact with.
Fyi…a lot of Black people’s frustration (believe it or not) is from not being understood. When comments are made, it’s not the one comment that carries the weight of the pain. It’s the collective we carry from the day we’re born. It’s a constant barrage of various forms of disrespect we have to shoulder, deal with and then grin and bear it and move along like nothing has happened. Like a sore scab that’s constantly being picked, it will always be tender. Prime example the LA riots, the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back. Then we have those who have never experienced 1/10th of the garbage we have to bear telling us to get over it and we’re overreacting…now that’s strength and hard work my dear Sandra.
Still Young, Black and Beautiful

You don't know how Jews would respond had someone said on the loudspeaker "All Jews should leave the store now." I don't know how they would respond but I have an idea. I believe we would have seen a press release from the ADL. You think not?
If you know African-Americans who are happy with their lives, why are you on this board complaining that other african-americans should be like those you know. Like every other race, we are diverse in our opinions and achievements. We do not have to live like the other in order to survive. We can and do have competing thoughts. Rev. Wright has made his money by providing for his community as pastor and serving his country as a military man. Billy Graham, the man who called Jews the "synagogue to Satan" was a presidential advisor up until his death. White people have no issue listening to him.
We're not treated differently than anyone else? Did you type that with a straight face? I know that I am and have been treated differently. That has not stopped any progress that I have made - none at all. So contrary to your bad advice, you do not have to disavow yourself of the knowledge that blacks are treated differently. That fact does not have to be dismissed just to make those like you comfortable.
So what that your dad is a cop. Who really cares. His profession, like many, is occupied by people who do foul, crappy, racist, sexist shit. That's life and your dad being a cop does not make his others in his profession always uphold the law. Stop feeling sorry for your dad and get over yourself dwelling on how bad some people think of those in his profession.
I know that this is the world wide web and for that reason I am not surprised to find a thimblefull of whites and even blacks who have been "victimized" by blacks. I guess we're spitting (like chimps) on people now too.
